Are you an experienced Mechanical Engineer with manufacturing materials and structural expertise?  Do you have design and product development experience in a heavy manufacturing environment? We are hiring an Advanced Development Engineer to join the Research and Validation team in our Fort Payne, AL facility. As the Advanced Development Engineer, you will lead research projects and serve as technical expert in the field of structures and materials. A key function of this role is to understand stress analysis and the use of
modeling software used for FEA. Your primary area of focus will be Mechanical Structures and Materials although cross-disciplinary involvement and education is a must. You will also help develop and work within a technical network of suppliers, peers and universities to understand emerging new technologies to be evaluated for potential viability and further development.



Key Functions of the Advanced Development Engineer:

  • Take part in the design, development and roll out of new projects that have an advanced development trajectory.
  • Research existing and new technologies and develop validation programs to evaluate new technologies.
  • Oversee and review testing protocol to ensure that technologies are properly validated.
  • Exhibit project leadership skills with designers, sustaining engineers, and other key team members to assure that engineering documents are adequate for a successful launch.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in structures, materials and related fields.
  •  Maintain a strong focus on quality, cost, and overall customer value.
  •  Actively participate with manufacturing and operations in early builds to assure that key specifications for successful assembly are included in the design.
  • Act as a key point of feedback for engineering processes and standards to assure that world-class warranty levels are achieved. This includes developing and maintaining standards for design.

 


Qualifications of the Advanced Development Engineer:

  •  Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering with advanced degree strongly preferred.
  • 5 years of Mechanical Engineering experience within a heavy manufacturing environment employing DFMA (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly).
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience using Pro-E and / or SolidWorks.
  • Advanced knowledge of FEA and experimental stress analysis and experience performing simulation analysis of materials and structures.
  • Product development experience from the Mining Equipment, Heavy Construction Equipment or other related industries will be given special consideration.
  • Experience in the design and application of Advanced Hydraulics, Robotics, and Controls Systems is heavily desired.
  • Should exhibit strong problem-solving skills and employ a process such as 6-Sigma or another structured method to solve complex problems.
  • Should be a self-starter with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while still being highly detailed and accurate. 
  • The ability to access new methods or technologies at various levels of detail. To quickly categorize it as ‘worth further investigation’ and then to pursue that investigation, validation and documentation.
  • Willing to travel up to 15% and maintain a flexible work schedule during critical stages of development projects to achieve result.
