Job Description

I. TITLE: Teacher Assistant / Teacher’s Aide – Early Childhood Education

II. SUPERVISOR: Program Administrator- Early Childhood Education and classroom teachers

III. HOURS PER WEEK: 35 - 40

IV. QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience working with pre-school children preferred.

V. FUNCTIONS: To assist teachers in assigned instructional area and in the management of individual and small group activities

VI. RESPONSIBILITIES:

•Ensure a safe, secure, and therapeutic classroom environment for all students

•Demonstrate an understanding of the need for establishing therapeutic relationships with students, assist with managing the classroom environment

•Work with classroom teachers in accordance with general classroom guidelines, New York Education Department, Albany City School District, County schools and The Office of Family and Child Services (OCFS)

•Assist with art preparation (cutting, laminating, etc.) classroom activities and clerical duties (photocopying, filing etc.)

•Supervision of nap time

•Meet with the assigned teacher to determine both long term plans and plans for the upcoming day and week.

•Use open, honest, professional communication skills, both verbally and in writing.

•Communicate student concerns and issues to appropriate staff.

•Monitor instructional and school activities under the supervision of the classroom teacher.

•Diapering, toileting supervision and assistance

•Monitor the students during meals and snacks- breakfast, lunch, after school/aftercare

•Attend orientation, training sessions and in-service meetings in person, virtually or pre-recorded as scheduled

•Implement agency practices including policies, procedures, routine, expectations and perform additional duties as assigned
