We are looking for a detail-oriented, hardworking Construction Project Estimator to join our team As an estimator, your primary responsibilities will be to evaluate and assess specific projects by reviewing proposals, blueprints, compare relevant project specifications and related documents. You should be able to translate project requirements into concrete figures and advise on the foreseeable cost of any developments and secure favorable prices from all outside resources. A top-notch Construction Project Estimator will adhere to financial constraints without compromising our high standards or well established reputation in the industry.

Estimator Duties and Responsibilities

  • Obtain and review all pertinent project documents including site plans, technical drawings and specifications
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and specifications
  • Analyze documentation and the job site specifics to fully understand the project's requirements
  • Outline the work plan to gauge how much time will be needed to complete each project
  • Obtain multiple quotes for any outsourced or job site requirements
  • Prepare and maintain a list of subcontractors and suppliers
  • Negotiate with service providers to secure competitive pricing.
  • Perform risk assessments to account for potential deviations from the project plan
  • Utilize Microsoft Project to develop project schedules for each project to assist the sales team in generating their proposals
  • Identify opportunities to value engineer a project to provide a competitive advantage
  • Compare materials, costs and time frames to develop the project budget
  • Work closely with key members of the project team (Engineering, Contracts and the Construction Coordinator) as well as participation in communicating with clients and General Contractors
  • Post project analysis to develop any improvements that can be made to future budgets
  • Prepare relevant and reliable forecasts
  • Conduct risk analysis for specific projects
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with key vendors
  • Research, source, negotiate and obtain the best prices and quotes from suppliers and subcontractors
  • Stay aware of the latest construction trends
  • Keep up to date with the latest regulatory and safety requirements as well as project specific regulatory codes
  • Assist management with project planning
  • Perform other duties as needed

Qualifications and Skills

  • Previous working experience as a construction estimator for a minimum of (2-4) years preferred
  • Completion of a college program in civil or construction engineering technology required, or several years of experience working as a qualified estimator in a similar or relevant field
  • Dependable, conscientious, and detailed oriented
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Excellent time-management skills
  • Exceptional quantitative skills
  • Familiarity with computer programs such as AutoCAD, BIM, PC based programs including Excel, Outlook and Word
  • Qualification in project management is highly advantageous
  • Ability to forecast costs with a good understanding of data analysis methods and Key Performance Indicators
  • Proficient and knowledgeable in following and staying current with industry trends
  • Fluent in English, bilingual in Spanish is a benefit. Must be able to read, write and speak English
  • Ability to negotiate with seasoned Sales personnel

Associations: Member of American Society of Professional Estimators is a plus
