Sales Tax Accountant

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Sales Tax Accountant that performs all tax compliance, and services related to the organizations. This includes evaluating Sales and Use Tax positions, complying with local ordinances, and assisting outside tax firms in preparing all yearly returns across multiple entities. The accountant works closely with other accounting team members to ensure seamless integration of tax services with broader financial objectives

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and process all sales and use returns for multiple divisions.
  • Complete monthly, quarterly, and annual tax reports.
  • Research prevailing sales tax law changes, court decisions, and current accounting and auditing procedures as it relate to multi-state tax laws
  • Administration of registration and compliance processes with numerous state, county, and local jurisdictions.
  • Monitors and Develop Sale Tax audit defense strategies to reduce exposure and mitigate assessments.
  • Attend and participate in the company’s position in the appeals process & tax redetermination hearings
  • Execute month-end close-related tasks, including journal entries, account analyses, and reconciliations.
  • Ability to reconcile multiple balance sheet accounts
  • Create and post journal entries to the general ledger
  • Assist Controller with month-end close
  • Assist in implementing process improvements.
  • Work with AvaTax to assure consistency and compliance

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or tax
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in with multi-state sales and use tax compliance
  • Technical Skills: Strong Microsoft Office – Excel, Experience with AvaTax
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail.
  • Strong overall understanding of Sales Tx relating to laws and regulations
