Job Summary:


The Quality Manager will lead the organization in all quality matters to ensure that our products and services meet all requirements expected by our customers. The Quality Manager will design and implement critical processes, procedures, and practices to eliminate defects (Quality Assurance) both internally and externally. The Quality Manager will manage critical control methods and processes to identify and capture quality failures in processes within the organization and prevent quality escapes (QC).


Essential Functions:


  • Understand customer and operational needs and requirements to develop and implement QA and QC procedures, practices, and processes.
  • Develop and implement quality specifications for Engineering, Procurement, Production, and Service.
  • Applies Statistical Process Control (SPC) as needed; utilize modern quality tools such as Design of Experiment (DOE), Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA), 6-S, 5-Why?, RCA, CAPA and other Six Sigma tools/methods for analyzing data to evaluate current/future business and recommend adequate changes for the betterment of the product or process.
  • Drives the appropriate implementation of countermeasures and preventative measures against quality failures and quality escapes.
  • Responds to “non-standard” customer disruptions including setting up containment or providing third-party assessment.
  • Supports purchasing to qualify new suppliers and manage supplier performance programs regarding safety and quality.
  • Propose quality-related projects to improve overall financial performance: manage any quality capital projects and budgets related to this, implement appropriate cost-saving strategies, and improve operational performance / on-time delivery.
  • Facilitates factory release criteria and standards (“OK to release and ship” process).
  • Determine process capabilities for critical quality attributes and works with Engineering and Operations to improve overall quality and efficiency.
  • Ownership of the MRB Review (material review board) Process – returns and warranty claims are processed, investigated, analyzed, and turned into meaningful data that can drive change (pareto analysis, etc.).
  • Incoming materials certification using confirmed specifications; establish visual and other qualification/measurement test(s), rejecting and returning unacceptable materials for proper financial credit (with Supply Chain).
  • Support building of SOPs (Standard Operation Procedures), OPL (One Point Lessons), and Quality Alerts.
  • Develop annual goals, strategy, initiatives, and budget for quality initiatives.
  • Report and articulate key quality KPIs for Executive and Operations L-10 metrics.
  • Serve as the management representative for ISO 9001 program and continue to build strong quality document control systems that meet the requirement of our ISO 9001 certification.
  • Develop a robust and effective process to improve the inspection processes of products prior to shipment.
  • Maintain a documentation system for all quality-related matters.
  • Participate in the new product development processes to ensure new products meet the required Quality Standards.


Knowledge Skills and Abilities:


  • Strong understanding of quality management systems or standard practices in quality management in manufacturing.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving and analytical skills. Strong communication skills and a high EQ are the abilities that will contribute to the greatest success possible.
  • Strong ability and experience in developing and implementing a Quality System from the ground up.
  • Ability and experience with establishing product and process quality standards, measurement of quality performance, monitoring, auditing, and tracking for adherence to quality specifications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Bi-lingual Spanish/English preferred
  • Understands prioritization and practices a high level of “sense of urgency” for matters that require immediate attention or action.
  • Skilled at delivering results in a high-performance continuous improvement environment.
  • Training and managing Quality Department staff in quality assessment, documentation, and corrective action.
  • Preparing reports used by Operations leadership, and Executive leaders.

Physical Demands:


  • Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.

  • Visual acuity requirements. The worker is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.

Work Environment:

  • The worker is sometimes subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level.
  • Office area exposure with heavy computer use.
  • Manufacturing area exposure to moving mechanical parts, oils/solvents, fumes, and odors that may affect the eyes, ears, nose, throat and/or skin.



Requirements:

Education and Experience:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Management, or a related field or, five years of experience in the Quality Management field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a low volume, high mix manufacturing environment with direct experience with Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and Lean Manufacturing tools.
  • Experience improving manufacturing and front/back office transactional processes in a leadership role.
  • Six Sigma certification (Green or Black Belt) and experience is a plus
  • Experience leading successful improvement events and other problem-solving projects.
