Steel Building Specialists, Inc. is seeking a skilled Construction Accountant to join our finance team and contribute to the financial management of our construction projects. The ideal candidate will have experience in construction accounting, cost control, and financial analysis within the construction industry. The Construction Accountant will play a vital role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, cost tracking, and compliance with industry regulations.

 Responsibilities:

Project Cost Accounting:

· Track and analyze costs associated with construction projects.

· Monitor project budgets, expenses, and variances.

· Work closely with project managers to ensure accurate project cost reporting.

· Assist with month end close processes as requested included maintaining Committed Costs accuracy, and management of open items, including unbilled invoices.

 

Accounts Receivable:

· Prepare and submit accurate and timely project invoices.

· Verify that billing aligns with project contracts and milestones.

· Compile required backup documentation.

· Coordinate with project managers to address any billing discrepancies.

· Troubleshoot billing errors as needed to maintain accuracy of invoices.

· Provide a high-level of customer service by responding to clients’ concerns and inquiries in a prompt, professional manner including addressing concerns to the appropriate manager and/or project manager.

 

Accounts Payable:

· Responsible for the entire accounts payable process including processing invoices and pay apps, verifying contract values and retainage calculations, coding, posting, and paying.

· Reconcile vendor and subcontractor accounts.

· Collaborate with project managers and subcontractors to resolve payment issues.

 

Financial Reporting:

· Generate financial reports related to construction projects.

· Provide management with insights into project financial performance.

· Provide management with requested reports as necessary.

· Ensure compliance with accounting principles and industry standards.

 

Technical:

· Strong technical skills are essential.

· Create and maintain workflows and ensure timely processing of payable invoices in Timberscan.

· Monitor multiple email accounts.

· Ensure ERP and Timberscan are updated timely.

· Ensure accurate data is synced between Procore and ERP.

 

Other Responsibilities:

· Other ad hoc projects, reporting and billing activities as needed including but not limited to process improvement and documentation of internal standard operating procedures.

· Assist in the preparation of WIP schedules for ongoing construction projects.

 

Qualifications:

· Strong integrity and work ethic are critical

· Bachelor's degree preferred.

· 3-5 years of experience in construction accounting or a related role.

· Previous experience in architecture and engineering/construction AIA completion billing, job costing and/or service provider accounting is required

· Familiarity with construction contracts, change orders, and project documentation.

· Proficient in construction accounting software (e.g., Procore, Sage 100 Contractor, Timberscan, Textura) and Microsoft Excel.

· Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

· Ability to seek out information and resolve issues

· Comfortable working autonomously but within a team

· Thorough understanding of job-costing, balance sheet, and income statement accounts.
