Branch Operations Manager

Southland Logistics is a full-service transportation provider, with 30 years of experience in the marketplace and rapidly growing asset-based company with offices nationwide. We are seeking a Freight Brokerage Operations Manager to grow with us for 1st shift essential employment in our Hickory, NC brokerage office. This position is a 40 + hour work week on a traditional Monday through Friday schedule in a fast-paced work environment. It will allow you to lend your individual talents to a team setting while managing a small team of employees. The Freight Brokerage Operations Manager will be responsible for the profit and loss reporting for the office, including the overall order cycle for customers, enhancement of business development and sustainability of our customers' satisfaction. Qualified candidates will already have a proven record of success within the operations of a freight brokerage operation. You will have to assess and identify incoming orders for priority, review for customer needs, and direct your brokerage team’s actions to ensure that all expectations and contractual obligations are met.

Responsibilities:

Leadership - Promote a culture and working environment that embraces growth, development and safety to meet the needs of our employees and customers. Be consistent and fair in our interactions in both internal and external interactions. Nurture development opportunities while offering feedback and training to direct reports. Own a major role in the onboarding and continuous development of internal and external partners. Record of successfully managing operations of a freight brokerage.

Communication - Provide guidance to employees on how to respond to challenging scenarios involving stakeholders. Supervise, coach and train freight brokerage office workforce. Communicate and comply with DOT & FMCSA laws, regulations and requirements.

Strategy - Participate in pricing and process negotiations. Collaborate with leadership team to deliver effective problem resolution and process improvements. Set quantitative, qualitative and personalized objectives for office workforce. Strategically plan and manage logistics, transportation and customer services of brokerage operation. Direct, optimize and coordinate full order cycle. Excellent analytical, problem solving and organizational skills. Keep track of quality, quantity, delivery times, transport costs and efficiency of customer shipments.

Customer Service - Confirm effective service execution and timely, accurate invoicing for services rendered. Mentor workforce employees to deliver quality business reviews. Conduct business reviews and support brokerage sales efforts. Identify and provide solutions for challenging customer scenarios. Lead by example in developing relationships with clients, peers within the company and carrier partners critical to the success of the transportation process for our clients.

Operations - Manage operating expenses through active mitigation of spot freight market climates. Monitor daily tasks, set priorities and measure performance through the utilization of operational and financial tools. Manage and revise best practice and standard operating procedures. Meet cost, productivity, accuracy and timeliness targets. Confirm that employee workforce has the tools, time and support they need to successfully service customer requirements. Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects in a fast-paced, professional office environment. Other duties or responsibilities as assigned according to the team.

Required Qualifications: High school degree or GED Equivalency. Proven flexibility and adaptability to product and customer needs Time management and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications: Proficient in TMS and Microsoft 365 Software. Values a diverse and inclusive work environment. Ability to work in a team environment, while also delivering independent results. Ability to persuade, motivate, influence and negotiate with others. Excellent verbal and written communication skills Bachelor’s degree or equivalent industry experience.
