Who we are looking forAs the Production Supervisor at School Excess, you will oversee the daily operations of the manufacturing floor, ensuring that our quality, safety, and productivity standards are consistently met. In this key hands-on role, you will be tasked with supervising warehouse personnel, planning and assigning work, and implementing policies and procedures that enhance production efficiency and workplace conditions. Your responsibilities will include maintaining and inspecting inventories of work-in-progress and finished goods. You will also lead LEAN initiatives, conduct accident investigations, ensure optimal inventory levels, and prioritize departmental tasks. Additionally, you will oversee facility maintenance, develop training programs, and strategize the potential introduction of an additional shift to meet production demands. As a pivotal figure in resolving customer complaints and promoting an inclusive team environment, you will also work on minimizing controllable costs and driving safety improvements.

What you will be doingHands-On Leadership and Production Oversight● Lead by example with a hands-on approach to production tasks, actively participating in manufacturing activities to demonstrate commitment and drive operational goals.● Supervise production and warehouse staff, providing clear direction, setting performance expectations, and ensuring tasks are completed efficiently, while promoting a culture of teamwork and continuous improvement.
Quality Control and Inventory Management● Implement stringent quality control processes across production lines to ensure that all refurbished school furniture meets the company's high standards, addressing any quality issues promptly.● Oversee inventory control procedures, conducting regular audits and cycle counts to ensure accuracy and minimize discrepancies, thereby aligning stock levels with production schedules.

Production Planning and Logistics Coordination● Plan and coordinate production schedules to meet delivery targets and manage workflow throughout the manufacturing floor.● Manage logistics related to production, including the efficient movement of materials between storage and production areas, optimizing the entire supply chain from inbound to outbound including relevant paperwork.

Safety Compliance and Production Risk Management● Maintain a rigorous safety protocol within production areas, conducting regular safety trainings and ensuring all production activities comply with health and safety regulations.● Identify and mitigate risks in production processes, implementing preventative measures to avoid production delays and ensure employee safety.

Reporting, Communication, and Training● Ensure all production documentation is accurately completed and timely filed, managing records related to production outputs, material usage, and quality control checks.● Facilitate effective communication across production and warehouse teams, ensuring all members are informed of operational targets and updates. Develop and implement training programs to enhance skills and efficiency on theproduction floor.

All other duties as assigned or required

What you will need● Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Industrial Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred but not required. Additional certifications in production management, quality control, or project management can enhance a candidate’s profile.● Extensive hands-on experience in a manufacturing or production environment, particularly in industries related to furniture manufacturing or refurbishing. Knowledge of production processes, equipment, and technology specific to the industry is crucial.● Proven experience in supervising and leading a team within a production or warehouse setting. Ability to motivate staff, manage team dynamics, and develop skills within the team.● Experience in setting up and managing quality control systems to ensure products meet required standards. Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies such as LEAN, Six Sigma, 5S, or similar approaches would beadvantageous.● Demonstrated ability to manage inventory and understand logistics, including procurement, storage, and supply chain optimization. Skills in using inventory management systems and implementing efficient stock control mechanisms are important.● Experience in enforcing safety standards and compliance within a production environment, including conducting safety audits, risk assessments, and training sessions.● Skills in planning production schedules, coordinating manufacturing activities, and ensuring timely completion of production targets. Experience in adjusting production flows to meet changing demands and minimize bottlenecks.● Proven track record of success in business development, with a minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role.● Strong analytical skills with the ability to quickly assess problems and determine effective solutions under pressure. ● Experience in handling production crises and making critical decisions that affect the production line.

Working condition

Medium amount of physical exertion, except occasional requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. Able to stand, bend and perform some repetitive motion throughout the process with some exposure to heat and cold in a non-temperature controlled warehouse. Combination of light to medium manufacturing environment with occasional exposure to equipment and processes.Willingness to Travel
