Suburban Endocrinology is seeking a dedicated and skilled Telephone Triage Medical Assistant to join our team. The primary role of the Telephone Triage Medical Assistant is to manage and respond to patient calls, provide appropriate medical advice and support under the guidance of our nurse practitioners and physicians, and ensure effective communication within the practice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Communication:

    • Answer incoming patient calls promptly and professionally.
    • Assess patient needs and provide appropriate medical advice or triage according to established protocols.
    • Escalate calls to nurse practitioners or physicians as necessary for further evaluation and care.

  • Medical Assessment:

    • Conduct a preliminary assessment of patient symptoms and medical history over the phone.
    • Document patient information accurately in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
    • Provide instructions for home care or advice on seeking further medical attention based on established guidelines.

  • Coordination of Care:

    • Schedule patient appointments as needed, ensuring appropriate follow-up and continuity of care.
    • Coordinate with other medical staff to relay important patient information.
    • Assist with prescription refills and other administrative tasks as needed.

  • Patient Education:

    • Provide patients with information about their medical conditions, treatment plans, and self-care techniques.
    • Offer guidance on managing chronic conditions and answer any patient queries.

  • Administrative Duties:

    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records.
    • Follow HIPAA regulations and ensure patient confidentiality.
    • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions to stay current with best practices and protocols.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience:

    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Medical Assistant certification preferred.
    • Previous experience in a medical office or telephone triage role is highly desirable.

  • Skills and Abilities:

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking abilities.
    • Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) systems.
    • Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and effectively.
    • Compassionate and patient-centered approach to care.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Basic knowledge of the EPIC EHR system.
    • Knowledge of medical terminology and common medical conditions.

Work Environment:

  • Office-based position with significant telephone and computer use.
  • Fast-paced, patient-centered environment requiring flexibility and adaptability.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods.
  • Manual dexterity to operate office equipment.
