Job Description:

The Center for the Advancement of the Specialty Enabled (CASE) in Columbia, Maryland, is seeking creative and compassionate individuals to join our team as Direct Support Professionals (DSP). Our organization is dedicated to empowering adults with varying degrees of cognitive impairments, providing them with the personalized support and advocacy they need to thrive within our community.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Personal Supports:

    • Provide direct care and assistance with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, medication administration, and mobility support.
    • Foster a safe, nurturing, and non-toxic environment that promotes the physical and emotional well-being of each participant.

  2. Community Development Services:

    • Facilitate opportunities for participants to engage in community activities, including social, recreational, and educational programs.
    • Support participants in developing skills that promote independence and integration within the community.
    • Encourage and assist participants in building and maintaining relationships with family members, friends, and community members.

  3. Respite Services:

    • Provide temporary relief for primary caregivers by offering short-term, personalized care for participants in their homes or in one of our CASE campuses.
    • Ensure a consistent and high level of care during respite periods, adapting to the specific needs and preferences of each participant.

  4. Advocacy and Empowerment:

    • Act as a strong advocate for participants, ensuring their rights and dignity are upheld at all times.
    • Collaborate with participants, their families, and interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized support plans.
    • Continuously assess and adjust support strategies to meet the evolving needs of each participant.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience or familiarity with providing personal supports, community development services, and respite care is strongly preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to connect and build trust with individuals from diverse backgrounds and with varying abilities.
  • A creative and flexible approach to problem-solving, with the ability to adapt to the unique needs of each participant.
  • Commitment to maintaining a healthy, collaborative, and non-toxic work environment.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with a focus on achieving positive outcomes for participants.
  • Reliable transportation and the ability to work in different settings, including participants’ homes and CASE campuses.
