AVP of Hospital Revenue Cycle and Financial Operations

JOB SUMMARY

Reports to the Vice President of Hospital Revenue Cycle and Financial Operations will have a broad set of responsibilities that will encompass oversight of the day-to-day operations of financial operations, revenue cycle management, client services/physician relations, onboarding and insurance enrollment, project management, and data analytics/dashboard reporting. All functions will be pursued in close partnerships with all members of the leadership team who represent and not limited to the following key functional areas of Clinical Department Administration, Finance, Revenue Cycle, Information Services, Compliance, Operations, Managed Care, Marketing, and Legal.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Financial Operations*:

1. Partners with management, physicians, and staff from the practice to identify financial improvement opportunities such as enhanced business operations, adherence to best practices, improved process flows and staffing models, or integration of new technologies.

2. Develops, plans, organizes, and implements current and future financial strategies to increase and improve cash flow, and manage the overall health of the client’s receivables.

3. Develops a consistent and coordinated billing model that can sustain or improve financial performance.

 

CBO/Revenue Cycle Management*:

1. Provides leadership and direction for the revenue cycle and ensures the integrity, accuracy and effectiveness of the professional billing cycle, including charge entry, professional coding, claims processing, cash posting, denial management and placements with third party collection agencies.

2. Holds revenue cycle operating reviews with financial and operations leaders throughout the hospital.

3. Works closely with the IT team to maintain, enhance, and optimize revenue cycle functions.

4. Reviews, designs, and implements processes such as billing, third party payer relationships, compliance, and collections to ensure that revenue cycle is effectively and properly utilized.

 

Client Services and Physician Relations*:

1. Partners with clinical team and physicians to assess financial and operational effectiveness and implement strategies for continued improvement in the administrative/business areas.

2. Establishes effective communication with lead practice physicians and understands practice reports and impact on performance metrics, including discussion of key performance indicators (KPIs)

 

Onboarding and Insurance Enrollment*:

1. Coordinates and oversees insurance enrollment program to assure processes are in compliance with professional standards and state/federal regulatory requirements

2. Engages with the respective Chairs and Departmental Administrators to coordinate all activities related to the onboarding of physicians and practices in a timely and accurate manner.

3. Develops and trains team members on contracting and enrollment best practices.

4. Oversees the data integrity and functionality of credentialing and enrollment databases.

 

Project Management*:

1. Creates and updates practice project plans, process flows and communicates project updates.

2. Alerts leadership to potential issues, risks, and delays in project deliverables.

3. Manages all operational aspects for implementation of projects.

4. Develops and ensures metrics, goals, and projects are documented, executed, tracked, and accomplished.

 

BASIC COMPETENCIES

Education:

Bachelors’ Degree required, preferably in Health Finance, Hospital Administration, or General Finance. Masters’ Degree preferred.

 

Experience:

Minimum 10 years-experience in revenue cycle management and optimization, patient financial, patient access, reimbursement, and other related fields.

 

A proven track-record of leading organizations through transformation, significant organizational change and process improvement is preferred.

 

Skills:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills; and exceptional interpersonal skills.

Ability to create, develop, and implement staff in-service educational programs.

Possesses strong critical thinking skills, shows initiative, with the ability to problem solve independently.

Detailed oriented and strong multi-tasking skills.

Proficient with PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Outlook in Microsoft Office, and Teams; and ability to create executive presentations using Microsoft Office for physician leadership, the Board of Trustees, senior administration, and department stakeholders.

Skilled negotiator with a collaborative approach; ability to handle criticism or challenges, and effectively manages conflict.

Ability to build positive and effective relationships; and strong physician relations
