SUMMARY:

Provides support by performing a wide variety of tasks under lawyer’s direct supervision.
The position requires the ability to perform duties of a responsible and confidential nature, to organize and expedite workflow of lawyers. Maintains positive contact with clients, attorneys and staff and observes confidentiality of client matters. This position requires the ability to meet challenges that lie beyond their current job responsibilities and ability to solve problems creatively with little or no supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Maintain extensive case files.

· Communicate with clients, experts, and fact witnesses.

· Conduct, monitor and independent follow up on third party discovery, including the issuance of Notices of Non-Party Production and subpoenas duces tecum.

· Review and summarize medical, billing, employment, insurance and other records to prepare timelines and summaries of evidence for use at deposition, mediation and trial.

· Familiarity and proficiency with the medical issues and terminology involved in personal injury litigation.

· Schedule and maintain calendar of legal events and deadlines, including the ability to independently comply with internal and external deadlines.

· Compile and prepare all necessary documents for attorney court appearances.

· Schedule and prepare records for independent medical examinations.

· Electronic filing of court documents in both state and federal courts.

· Court and Official Records, Asset search/due diligence, LexisNexis, and WestLaw research.

· Document management, discovery pleadings including propounding & responding to interrogatories and requests for production and admissions.

· Participate in development and organization of large document productions.

· Draft, revise, finalize and distributes all correspondence, memoranda, agreements, contracts, legal documents, briefs, charts and reports for department attorneys or executives. Corresponds with clients, Courts, and vendors (process servers, court reporters, judicial assistants, bankruptcy case managers, medical providers, financial institutions, etc.).

· Must be able to ascertain matters of priority and urgency and be able to respond in a quick and efficient matter, use initiative and judgment to minimize the effect in a lawyer’s absence, and refer matters to appropriate delegated authority.

· Must be able to track and bill time.

· Perform special projects for attorneys.

· Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

To perform this job successfully, one must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and in a manner consistent with Firm expectations. Applicants should be well organized, positive, outgoing, efficient, detail oriented and able to work independently. Must have strong typing skills and be proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, MS office suite and Adobe.

WORK-RELATED EXPERIENCE AND/OR EDUCATION

A high school diploma or GED is required. College experience is preferred but not required. A minimum of five (5) years of legal experience as a high performing personal injury paralegal is necessary.

LICENSING OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Certified Paralegal Certificate is required.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

Must possess good verbal and written communication skills, organization skills, prioritization/time management skills, and work effectively under stressful conditions.

CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS:

This position operates in a service department environment and must be familiar with the needs and expectations of internal and external customers. Must possess above average to highly developed customer service skills in order to satisfy these expectations.

OTHER ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

Must possess strong typing skills, computer skills, dictation skills, filing skills, telephone skills, language skills (including grammar, spelling, etc.) and performs competently all the functions of the Firm’s various software programs and computer hardware. Must have the ability to respond to the needs of the Firm by being flexible with hours, assignments, and overtime.

May be required to sit, stand, walk for extended periods of time. The incumbent may be required to occasionally climb, bend, lift, carry, kneel. Because of the volume of work performed by computer and telephone, one will spend a considerable amount of time looking at computer monitors and using his/her hands to operate office equipment.
