Job Title: Human Resources Intern

Duration: Summer 2024 (May-August)

Schedule: Part-Time (15-20 hours/week) Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9am – 4pm

Location: Arlington, VA (onsite)

Compensation: $20.00 per hour

The Air Force Aid Society (AFAS) is the official charity of the United States Air Force (USAF) and United States Space Force (USSF). Incorporated in 1942, AFAS meets the unique needs of Airmen and Guardians through financial, educational, and community support to enhance the USAF and USSF missions.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our Human Resources team as an Intern. This internship offers a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in HR administration, projects, and onboarding processes within a dynamic and supportive environment. As a Human Resources Intern, you will play a crucial role in supporting our HR team's initiatives while developing essential skills for your future career in HR.

This is an onsite position in our Arlington, VA office.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. HR Administration:
    • Provide essential administrative support to the HR team by maintaining and organizing accurate employee records and updating HR databases.
    • Collaborate with team members to streamline administrative processes and enhance efficiency in HR operations.
  2. HR Projects:
    • Contribute actively to HR projects and initiatives aimed at improving HR processes, policies, and practices.
    • Conduct research, gather data, and prepare reports to support project objectives.
    • Assist in the creation of a revised Employee Handbook.
  3. Onboarding Assistance:
    • Support the onboarding process for new hires by preparing onboarding materials and assisting with necessary paperwork.
    • Ensure new employees have a smooth transition into the organization by guiding them through the onboarding process and addressing any questions or concerns.
    • Assist in ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements related to onboarding documentation.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • HS diploma and some advanced level training.
  • Actively pursuing or recently obtained a 4-year degree at an accredited university majoring in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Highly organized with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Eagerness to learn and contribute to HR projects and initiatives.
  • Passion for the mission of the Air Force Aid Society and supporting military families.
