Chief Financial Officer

Small Family Commercial Office is looking for a CFO, a leader who can guide the financial system, build solid processes and provide timely reporting. The CFO will have a day-to-day, ongoing impact on company operations, and help to maintain our financials across 20+ related businesses. As a member of our small family office, the CFO will be comfortable rolling up sleaves to manage all aspects of the accounting and financial reporting and comfortable wearing multiple hats. No task too small. We’re looking for someone with a 10+ year commitment.

Objectives of this role

  • Take responsibility (either directly or via staff) for all cash management, investments, insurance, and financial reporting
  • Ensure cash flow is compatible with operations by conducting day-to-day accounting, recording, reporting, and internal-control activities of the organization
  • Develop and implement best practices and tools to ensure a well-controlled yet flexible organization that has strong fiscal management, project coordination, cross-team communications, and workflows
  • Comply with national and local requirements in the real estate and note servicing industry by studying existing and new legislation and taking appropriate action

Responsibilities (but not limited to)

  • Conduct and/or oversee the preparation and communication of monthly and annual financial statements. Ensure the timely reporting of key financial data and updates to key stakeholder
  • Analyze internal operations and identify areas for cost reduction and process enhancement
  • Perform risk management through analysis of company liabilities and investments, and evaluate and manage capital structure
  • Oversee HR operations by coordinating with external service providers (ex: payroll, benefits, recruitment) and internal staff responsible for other aspects of HR
  • Monitor business performance with tracking tools, establish corrective measures as needed, and prepare detailed reports to present to stakeholder
  • Ensure legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions. This includes tax planning and compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations
  • File quarterly and annual state and federal tax returns

Required skills and qualifications

  • Three or more years of experience in executive leadership roles
  • Excellent leadership skills, with personal integrity
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and visual communication skills
  • Understanding of advanced accounting, regulatory issues, and tax planning
  • Certified Public Accountant with tax filing experience

Preferred skills and qualifications

  • Note servicing experience and real estate industry knowledge
  • Software knowledge of: general bookkeeping, property management, and note management
  • Bilingual: Spanish/English
