Bilingual Legal Transcribers

Woman-owned small business in Northern VA is seeking professional bilingual Transcribers who possess native-level English and advanced foreign language skills (tested at level 3+ ILR proficiency rating in reading/writing/listening/speaking) in English and the following languages:
- Spanish
- Chinese
- Croatian
- French
- German
- Italian
- Pashto
- Portuguese
- Russian
- Turkish
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and possess an active U. S. Public Trust or higher security clearance and pass a criminal/background check.
- DOJ active clearance holders a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in linguistics, translation, or related field; transcription certificate/formal training a plus.
- At least three years of experience performing professional foreign language transcriptions.
- Extensive English and foreign language vocabularies used in formal, legal, diplomatic, consultative, and casual modes of communication in various contexts, including colloquial slang, idiosyncratic slang, and regionalisms.
- Knowledge of specialized vocabulary (and terminology) in both English and the foreign language.
- Preserve the tone and register of transcribed material (source audio or multimedia content).
- Abide by relevant code of linguist ethics.
- Adept in using transcription equipment and understanding of multimedia file formats.
- Excellent word processing and formatting skills; highly proficient in MS Office suite, especially MS Word.
Additional Required Skills:
- Type quickly and accurately to keep up with the recording and produce complete and accurate transcripts.
- Excellent focus and attention to detail.
- Time management skills.
- Ability to research and determine the exact words spoken (if not discernable) in context of recorded speech.
- Ability to listen, understand, and type simultaneously.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
