Works-in-Progress Associates (WPA) is currently seeking a motivated Junior Project Manager to join our team This project consists of the construction of a new LEED certified Jamaica Bus Depot facility located at 165-18 Tuskegee Airmen Way, Jamaica NY 11433.

Project Description:

Demolition of the existing Jamaica Bus Depot in its entirety and additional properties. The existing depot shall remain in operation until the new bus depot is constructed and fully operational. The new bus depot will consist of a one-story 26’ tall building, 134,000 SF on ground level and 5,200 SF on basement level, with parking for 300 SBE (Standard Bus Equivalent) parking spaces, three fueling lanes, three bus wash lanes, two interior bus wash stations, one chassis wash station, 15 maintenance bays and rooftop bus parking. A ramp will connect the ground floor to the rooftop parking level. The project will also include a three-level administrative building providing 7,600 SF of administrative space on the first and second floors, and the third floor would bridge over the at-grade bus parking area and extend to the main structure providing an additional 19,700 SF. A 31-foot-high sound barrier walls would be located on the south and west side of the depot. The project also includes the construction of a Temporary Parking Lot (location to be determined): convert a property into a temporary paved bus parking area to accommodate at least 170 buses from the Jamaica Bus Depot. The proposed parking lot will be designed to meet environmentally conscious design regulations with respect to storm water management.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Baccalaureate Degree in engineering/architecture and/or construction related field from an accredited college or university.
  • 1-3 years of full-time experience as a technical specialist
  • OSHA 30 certification is required.
  • A driver's license valid in New York State.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with all applicable software packages including but not limited to MS Windows; MS Office (including Project, Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
  • Must be willing to undergo a background check, in accordance with local law/regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Project Manager to ensure the completion of projects.
  • Understand the scope of the project.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee operations.
  • Assist with timeline development and ensure production is on schedule.
  • Coordinate tasks and resources.
  • Provide supervision from start to finish and offer guidance to improve progress.
  • In charge of hiring and training project development staff.
  • Concisely communicate with other departments to fill project needs.
  • Search for ways to improve efficiency while lowering project costs.
  • Review project quality and create relevant reports.

We have been in business for over 30 years and have completed well over 400 projects. We currently have somewhere between 40-50 employees.

Because we are a woman-owned firm we are on contracts with larger Construction Management firms such as LiRo, Hill International, Jacobs, Tectonic, Gilbane, etc. and we help them to meet their WBE goals. We provide Project Managers, Inspectors, Estimators, Office Engineers and so on.
