JRDN Restaurant is currently seeking a Sous Chef to join our team The ideal candidate will have experience working in a high-volume, up-market restaurant environment to continue the tradition of excellence and service for which JRDN is known. 

 

What's in a Sous Chef and why does it matter? Finding the right management team in the kitchen can be a bit daunting at times. Chefs are a unique type of artist that take immense pride in their craft and demand perfection from their staff. Sous-chefs need a unique set of skills: First and foremost, they need to be accomplished cooks who have earned their stripes.

Chef Qualifications: 

  • Exceptional cooking skills 
  • Ability to effectively manage the kitchen staff, motivate them and assign duties fairly 
  • Familiarity with the best practices in the hotel and catering services industry 
  • Knowledge of health and safety standards 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Point of Sale and restaurant management software 
  • Ability to multitask and work quickly under pressure 
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills 
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills 

 

Cook Duties and Responsibilities (this is a sampling and not an all-inclusive list of responsibilities): 

  • Preparing meals and food to meet the specifications of guests in a timely manner 
  • Properly measuring kitchen ingredients and food portions 
  • Ensuring kitchen staff adhere to set standards, procedures, department rules and sanitation requirements 
  • Using kitchen knives and equipment such as grills, ovens, steamers and warmers in food preparation 
  • Managing the kitchen inventory and ensuring supplies are fresh and of high quality 
  • Ensuring proper food temperatures when cooking and proper storage afterward 
  • Keeping the workstation and kitchen equipment clean, organized and sanitized 
  • Taking charge of kitchen opening, closing and other side duties as directed by the Executive Chef 

 

Must have the availability and flexibility to work weekends and holidays. 

 

PAY RATE: $23.00 - $27.00 per hour (based upon experience) 

Additional Employment Benefits: PTO, paid sick time, health/dental/vision benefits, flexible schedule and access to the employee assistance program (EAP). You may also receive discounts to all our hotel/restaurant venues located in San Diego, Chula Vista, Catalina Island, Bakersfield and Lake Havasu City.
