Job DescriptionJob Description

Consider working for Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) to be part of a diverse workforce dedicated to putting children first and making them college-ready. Your role would involve performing detailed clerical accounting duties for an assigned department, including maintaining complex financial and technical accounting records, forecasting and tracking expenditures, and providing technical accounting assistance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform specialized accounting functions within assigned department in compliance with MPS policies and quality standards.
  • Maintain specialized budget, accounting, and technical transaction databases; develop reports and forecasts as directed.
  • Oversee specialized accounting functions, monitoring data, identifying anomalies, and resolving technical issues.
  • Conduct special research and analysis projects, summarizing data to assist managers in decision-making.
  • Perform confidential and complex clerical accounting tasks, including monitoring budgets, processing purchase orders and payments, maintaining position control, grant fund accounting, and reconciling bank statements.
  • Provide technical support for department staff on budget, purchasing, and other financial issues.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED; four (4) years of experience as an Accounting Clerk, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of accounting and budgeting principles, applicable policies and regulations, and accounting software applications.
  • Skill in interpreting and applying accounting standards, preparing financial statements, reviewing and verifying data, maintaining accurate records, and establishing effective working relationships.
