INFORMATION

Job Class: Technician

Department: Tribal Transportation

Type of Position: Non-Exempt

Hours of Work: M-F, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm

Employment Category: Regular, Full-Time


PURPOSE

The Automotive Technician will perform routine preventive maintenance and minor repairs on Tribal and/or private vehicles, which might also include heavy equipment. Incumbent will perform tire installation, lube, and automotive repairs, conduct vehicle inspections for mechanical services, and perform scheduled maintenance. The Automotive Technician will assist with the drop-off and pick-up of vehicles.



REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Reports To: Tribal Transportation Manager

Supervises: N/A

Liaison To: N/A


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Perform vehicle maintenance as assigned in accordance with dealer and factory standards
Ensure duties are performed in a safe, efficient, and effective manner
Perform minor maintenance, e.g., changing engine oil and filters
Perform complete vehicle maintenance inspection including tires, brakes, and all fluid levels
Visual safety and courtesy inspections
Mounting, balancing, and rotating tires
Replacing batteries
Changing bulbs, belts, and hoses
Maintaining and cleaning shop areas
Other shop maintenance items as needed
Other duties as assigned

NECESSARY SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Basic mechanical understanding of an automobile
Operate a wide variety of cars, light trucks, and vans, with ability to drive both manual and automatic transmissions
Strong organizational skills and detail oriented
Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
Deadline and detail-oriented



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)

High School graduate or equivalent
18 years or older
Acceptable driving record and a valid driver's license



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)

Minimum 3 years of experience

 

UNUSUAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OR RESTRICTIONS

The work is active, requiring routine walking, standing, bending, reaching, lifting, kneeling, stooping, pushing, and pulling items weighing up to 50 pounds. The majority of work is labor intensive.
