JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:

- Project Assessment: Review project plans, specifications, and other relevant documents to understand the scope of electrical work required. Analyze project requirements, including electrical drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.

- Cost Estimation: Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for electrical projects. Break down the project into individual components, such as materials, equipment, labor, and subcontractors. Research and gather pricing information for electrical materials, equipment, and services.

- Quantity Takeoff: Perform quantity takeoffs to determine the quantities of electrical materials needed for the project. Calculate the amount of wiring, conduit, fixtures, panels, and other electrical components required based on project specifications and industry standards.

- Vendor and Supplier Management: Source and evaluate potential vendors and suppliers for electrical materials and equipment. Request and compare quotations to ensure competitive pricing and quality. Maintain relationships with suppliers to obtain updated pricing and availability.

- Estimation Software and Tools: Utilize specialized software and tools for electrical estimating, such as computer-aided estimating software, databases, and spreadsheets. Stay updated with industry trends and advancements in estimating technology.

- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of cost estimates, bids, and related documents. Provide regular reports on estimation progress, cost analysis, and any potential changes or updates to estimates.

- Risk Assessment: Identify and assess potential risks and uncertainties associated with the project. Consider factors such as project complexity, site conditions, and market conditions that may impact cost estimates. Develop risk mitigation strategies and communicate potential risks to project stakeholders.

- Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with industry standards, codes, regulations, and pricing trends related to electrical construction. Seek opportunities for professional development and actively participate in training programs or industry associations to enhance estimating skills.

JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY:

  • Experienced in electrical construction industry for commercial and/or public works progressively for 1-3 years or more.
  • Knowledge of architecture and general engineering principles. This individual understands electrical and mechanical construction and has a command of means and methods in multiple sectors. Additionally, the individual can interpret specifications, schedules, and related project documentation autonomously.
  • General PC skills – MS Word, Excel, Outlook. This individual is able to prepare a presentable and accurate scope letter in addition to most other forms of business correspondence encountered in this work. Spreadsheet fluency is maintained as necessary for the position.
  • Experienced with Accubid or similar estimating software. This individual has the ability to work with the software and create an accurate model of the work from start to finish. Setting up cost-loaded breakdowns and detailed project sorting are an expectation of this position.
  • Strong detail orientation, proficient, and rapid in takeoff.
  • Able to set labor units and material pricing in cases where there are no precedents. This individual has the experience, ability, and common sense to make a qualified guess at unknowns.
  • Develops relationships with clients at the functional staff level.
  • Strong verbal and written skills.
  • Results-oriented.
  • Ability to interact effectively at all levels and across diverse cultures.
  • Ability to be an effective team member.
  • Ability to adapt as the external environment and organization evolves.
  • Works with junior level staff to facilitate departmental growth
