As an International Nonprofit Risk Management Specialist, you will play a crucial role in identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks associated with our organization's operations across the globe. Your expertise will ensure that our initiatives are conducted ethically, safely, and in compliance with relevant regulations and standards.

Responsibilities:

  1. Risk Assessment and Analysis:

    • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments of international projects, programs, and partnerships to identify potential threats and vulnerabilities.
    • Analyze data and trends to anticipate emerging risks and develop strategies to address them proactively.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders to prioritize risks based on their potential impact and likelihood.
    • Market the book to various insurance carriers for adequate coverage.
  2. Policy Development and Implementation:

    • Develop and implement risk management policies, procedures, and protocols tailored to the unique challenges of operating in diverse international contexts.
    • Ensure that risk management practices align with organizational goals, values, and legal requirements.
    • Provide guidance and training to staff and partners on risk management principles and best practices.
  3. Risk Mitigation and Control:

    • Design and implement risk mitigation strategies and control measures to minimize the likelihood and severity of adverse events.
    • Monitor the effectiveness of risk controls and adjust strategies as needed to address evolving threats and changing circumstances.
    • Establish mechanisms for reporting and addressing risk incidents in a timely and transparent manner.
    • Take  the book to various insurance markets
  4. Compliance and Legal Oversight:

    • Stay informed about relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards governing nonprofit operations, particularly in international settings.
    • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements related to risk management, including but not limited to financial, environmental, and human rights standards.
    • Coordinate with legal counsel and other stakeholders to address legal and compliance issues as they arise.
  5. Crisis Response and Continuity Planning:

    • Develop and maintain contingency plans and crisis response protocols to address emergencies, natural disasters, and other unforeseen events.
    • Lead or support crisis response efforts as needed, coordinating with internal teams, external partners, and relevant authorities.
    • Identify opportunities to enhance organizational resilience and continuity in the face of disruption.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in risk management, business administration, international development, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in risk management, preferably in a nonprofit or international context.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess complex situations and develop practical solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of relevant legal and regulatory frameworks, as well as industry best practices in risk management.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, multicultural environment.
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in additional languages is a plus.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of the organization.
  • Extensive commercial insurance experience.
