SUMMARY: The Payroll & Benefits Specialist will be responsible for overseeing and administering all aspects of payroll processing and benefits administration. Ideal candidate will have meticulous attention to detail, strong organization skills and a deep understanding of and passion for payroll processing and benefits administration.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Payroll Processing

  • Process biweekly payroll accurately and in a timely manner, ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Calculate wages, deductions, and adjustments, including overtime, bonuses, commissions, and other compensation elements.
  • Verify and reconcile payroll data, including hours worked, multi-state taxes, and other deductions.
  • Handle payroll-related inquiries and resolve discrepancies or issues effectively.
  • Maintain payroll records and ensure data integrity and confidentiality.

Benefits Administration

  • Administer employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, flexible spending accounts, short term disability and other benefits offerings
  • Assist employees with benefit enrollment, changes, and inquiries, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Coordinate with benefit providers, brokers, and vendors to ensure smooth administration and resolve any issues or discrepancies.
  • Stay updated on changes in benefit laws, regulations, and industry trends to ensure compliance and competitive offerings.
  • Conduct benefits orientations for new employees and facilitate communication regarding benefits updates and changes.

Compliance and Reporting

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll and benefits regulations, including tax withholding, reporting, and filings.
  • Prepare and submit payroll-related reports, such as tax filings, wage statements, and benefits reports.
  • Assist with audits related to payroll, benefits, and employee records, providing accurate documentation and support as required.
  • Completes various forms or claims related to domestic relations, child support, mortgage companies and requests for other payroll information.

Process Improvement and Documentation

  • Identify opportunities to streamline payroll and benefits processes, improve efficiency, and enhance accuracy.
  • Develop and maintain payroll and benefits policies, procedures, and documentation, ensuring alignment with best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Implement payroll and benefits system upgrades or changes, collaborating with IT and other stakeholders to ensure smooth transitions.

FOOD SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Basic understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices and Food Safety Standards.
  • Follow food safety management procedures (including HACCP and ISO 22000) and maintain clear and accurate records.
  • SQF standard to report food safety and quality issues to personnel with the authority to initiate action.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong understanding of payroll laws, regulations and best practices.
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy and time management skills.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, adjusting work direction within shifting priorities.
  • Able to read, write and understand English.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Finance or related field, or equivalent work experience (required)
  • 2+ years’ experience in payroll processing and benefits administration (required)
  • Certification(s) in payroll (e.g., Certified Payroll Professional, CPP) or benefits administration (e.g., Certified Employee Benefits Specialist, CEBS) (preferred)
  • Paylocity HRIS experience (preferred)
  • 2+ years’ experience working in a Manufacturing environment (preferred)

Through the years, other bakeries have tried to copy our "Splits" without much success.
