Position Description: The Career Coach position serves the Career Pathway Services program. Reporting to the Program Director, and working closely with staff, this position is primarily responsible for assisting program participants secure career-track manufacturing jobs and other positive placements (college, training other employment, etc.) upon program completion. The Career Coach will also be the primary person on the team to provide career coaching services and supports to program participants (predominantly Black, Latino and ranging ages 18-29) and liaison with manufacturing companies to facilitate career exposure, work experiences and career-track job placement services, supports and activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Career Coaching: Estimating approximately 60-70% of time will be in the provision of career coaching and related services to program participants including:
- Assist program coordinators with program outreach, orientation and occasional training facilitation.
- Organize and supervise implementation of high-quality work experiences for program participants, including facility tours, job shadows, internships, and full-time job placements.
- Provide 1-on-1 coaching with all enrolled participants to help them prepare for successfully pursuing and persisting in career-track employment. Use best practices to assess and develop career readiness and assist in identification of other pre-employment resources as needed.
- Upon placement, provide customized job-retention support for participants towards keeping the job and identifying further career development resources and assistance.
- Responsible for recording and entering participant and employer data in Salesforce and other data management systems as required. Also responsible for running and sharing monthly reports on career coaching activities and related metrics to the team and assisting in reports to funders.
2. Employer Engagement: Estimating approximately 30-40% of time will be in the outreach, engagement of manufacturing company employers.
- Identify, engage and recruit manufacturing companies as partners to host field trips, internships, job shadows and potential career-track job placement opportunities.
- Engage with manufacturing experts and stakeholders to grow MR’s pool of industry partners. Learn and understand company needs and culture to inform program activity design and implementation and to develop career-track job placement strategies for participants.
- Use multiple communication strategies to engage and keep manufacturing partners informed on regular intervals on MR activities through in-person visits, advisory committee meetings, phone calls, and emails.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Must have completed an associate or bachelor’s degree.
Must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience working as a career coach or human resources professional.
Must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience and a successful track record for providing coaching, employment or social supports to youth and young adults predominantly from low-income, Black/Latino or other persons of color backgrounds.
Must have a current driver's license and a car (or reliable means to get to employment and training sites across Chicago and the Chicagoland area)
Must be able to pass appropriate criminal background check and comply with Illinois Mandated Reporting laws.
Must have been previously vaccinated for COVID-19 and related variants and willing to update vaccinations per federal and/or local public health recommendations.
Must have excellent computer and internet literacy skills: proficient in typing, using Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google web applications.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Fluent in Spanish highly preferred.
Experience using Salesforce highly preferred.
At least 1 year of experience working in a metal working manufacturing environment highly preferred.
At least 1 year of experience doing outreach and engaging manufacturing businesses (or similar employers) for the purpose of coordinating work experiences or job opportunities highly preferred.
