Position Overview: The Heavy Civil Foreman specializing in Paving Roadways is responsible for supervising and coordinating all on-site activities related to the construction, repair, and maintenance of roadways. This role requires extensive experience in asphalt paving, grading, and related civil construction activities. The Foreman will ensure that all work is completed according to project specifications, on schedule, and within budget while maintaining a high standard of safety and quality.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Supervision:
- Oversee all aspects of paving operations, including planning, scheduling, and coordinating crew activities.
- Direct and supervise the work of paving crews, ensuring compliance with project plans, specifications, and safety standards.
- Ensure that all materials, equipment, and tools are available on-site as needed, coordinating with the Project Superintendent and suppliers.
Quality Control:
- Monitor the quality of work performed, ensuring that it meets or exceeds the project specifications and industry standards.
- Conduct regular inspections of work in progress and completed sections to identify and address any issues promptly.
- Maintain accurate records of daily work activities, including material usage, equipment hours, and labor hours.
Safety Management:
- Enforce all safety protocols and regulations on the job site, ensuring that all crew members adhere to OSHA standards and company policies.
- Conduct daily safety meetings and inspections, identifying potential hazards and implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Ensure that all personnel are properly trained and equipped with the necessary safety gear and tools.
Crew Leadership:
- Lead, train, and mentor crew members, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Assign tasks and responsibilities to crew members, ensuring efficient use of labor and equipment.
- Resolve any conflicts or issues that arise on-site, maintaining a focus on project goals and timelines.
Coordination and Communication:
- Coordinate with the Project Superintendent, Project Manager, and other stakeholders to ensure that paving activities are aligned with the overall project schedule.
- Communicate effectively with subcontractors, inspectors, and other project team members to ensure smooth project execution.
- Provide regular updates to the Project Superintendent on the progress of paving activities, any issues encountered, and corrective measures taken.
Equipment Management:
- Ensure that all paving equipment is properly maintained, serviced, and operated according to manufacturer guidelines.
- Monitor the performance and efficiency of paving machinery, making adjustments as necessary to optimize production.
- Coordinate with equipment operators and mechanics to address any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs promptly.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience in heavy civil construction, with a focus on roadway paving.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a team of construction workers.
- Extensive knowledge of paving operations, including asphalt placement, compaction, and grading.
- Familiarity with civil construction methods, materials, and equipment used in roadway paving.
- Strong understanding of safety regulations and best practices in heavy civil construction.
- Ability to read and interpret project plans, specifications, and blueprints.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record; CDL is preferred.
