Job Title: HVAC Estimator

Overview:

The HVAC Estimator is responsible for preparing detailed estimates for the installation, repair, and maintenance of HVAC systems in commercial, industrial, and sometimes residential properties. This role requires a thorough understanding of HVAC design, engineering principles, and cost analysis to create accurate bids that meet client needs and company profit goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Estimate Preparation: Analyze project specifications, drawings, and documents to prepare comprehensive cost estimates for HVAC systems. This includes materials, equipment, labor, and other related costs.
  • Project Analysis: Understand and evaluate the project requirements to determine the scope of work, project duration, and labor requirements. Review architectural and engineering drawings to assess complexity and risk factors.
  • Vendor and Subcontractor Coordination: Collaborate with vendors and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotes for materials and services. Negotiate prices and terms to ensure the best cost without compromising quality.
  • Bid Proposal Development: Compile detailed proposals that include the scope of work, pricing, and project timelines. Ensure clarity and accuracy in all bid documents.
  • Client Liaison: Communicate with clients to clarify project requirements, present estimates, and discuss alternatives that might influence cost or scheduling.
  • Project Management Support: Work closely with the project management team to ensure smooth transition from estimation to project initiation. Assist in project planning, scheduling, and cost control.
  • Technology and Software Use: Utilize specialized software for HVAC estimation and project management. Stay updated on the latest industry technology to improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Compliance and Standards: Ensure all estimates comply with applicable codes, standards, and regulations. Stay informed about changes in industry practices, materials, and regulations.
  • Financial Analysis: Perform cost analysis and monitor project financial performance against estimates. Adjust project strategies based on financial data analysis.

Qualifications:

  • Education: A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field is preferred. Significant experience in HVAC systems and estimation may substitute for education.
  • Experience: Proven experience as an HVAC Estimator or in a similar role within the HVAC, construction, or mechanical services industry.
  • Skills: Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in estimation software and MS Office. Excellent communication and negotiation skills. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.

Working Conditions:

  • This role typically works in an office setting but may require visits to project sites to assess conditions or meet with project teams.
  • Standard working hours with additional hours as needed to meet project deadlines.
