Job Purpose / Summary:

The Director of Pharmacy oversees the full operation of the mail order pharmacy, ensuring high-quality, efficient, and compliant services. This role involves strategic planning, staff management, process improvement, and collaboration with other departments, locally and centrally, to ensure seamless patient care and satisfaction.

  1. Operational Oversight: Optimize the operational workflow of pharmacy which includes developing and implementing standardized operating procedures to ensure consistency and efficiency in daily operations.
  2. Drive Utilization: Effectively and efficiently drive the utilization of resources, processes, and strategies to grow the prescription volume with a focus on improving the patient’s medication adherence, health outcomes, and quality of life.
  3. Customer Service: Build and maintain positive relationships with customers/clients to maintain and improve the patient experience.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

The Director of Pharmacy Operations will be responsible for the following, but not limited to:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of mail order pharmacy including dispensing medications, managing inventory, and maintaining accurate documentation and records.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise pharmacy staff, including pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and support personnel.
  • Provide ongoing feedback and performance evaluations to pharmacy staff.
  • Foster a positive work environment and promote teamwork and collaboration.
  • Monitor workflow to optimize efficiency and customer service.
  • Manage pharmacy inventory, including ordering medications and supplies, monitoring stock levels, and minimizing waste.
  • Implement strategies to optimize inventory turnover and reduce costs while ensuring adequate supply to meet patient needs.
  • Conduct regular inventory audits and cycle counts to reconcile discrepancies and ensure accuracy.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to optimize patient outcomes and ensure safe and effective medication use.
  • Counsel patients about their medications, including dosage instructions, potential side effects, and drug interactions that could have a negative impact on their health.
  • Investigate and address any incidents or errors to prevent recurrence and promote patient safety.
  • Maintain high levels of customer satisfaction to improve patient and provider experience.
  • Effectively and clearly communicate potential risks to Leadership in a timely manner.
  • Maintain strong relationship with client partners and meet as needed to ensure operational excellence.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications & Education Requirements:

To perform the job successfully, an individual must have the following:

· Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an accredited institution.

· Active Indiana pharmacist license and in good standing.

· Minimum 8-10 years of experience in a pharmacy setting, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.

· Experience in mail order pharmacy operations is highly preferred.

· Strong knowledge of pharmacy laws, regulations, and best practices.

· Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

· Ability to prioritize tasks, problem-solve, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.

· Proficiency in pharmacy management software and technology.

· Willingness to obtain pharmacist licensure in additional states as required.

 

Travel Required:

  • Up to 5% travel

 

Working Conditions / Physical Demands:

· Utilize a computer, calculator, and phone.

· Physical requirements include standing for extended periods.

· May be required to lift items up to 25 lbs. on occasion.

· Will need to handle issues after hours on laptop occasionally.
