Forest Health Medical Center, a 68-bed multi-specialty surgical hospital located in Ypsilanti, Michigan, is seeking an experienced Staff Accountant reporting to the Company's Controller. This position will be responsible principally for maintaining the accounts and records of affiliated companies and the timely generation of monthly financial statements and reports while understanding and ensuring compliance with the Company's financial policies and internal accounting controls.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process general journal entries by maintaining records and files for multiple companies

  • Prepare financial analyses, reports, and presentations on a monthly basis and schedule

  • Prepare balance sheet account reconciliations and perform variance analyses as required

  • Comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), industry accounting pronouncements, and Company procedures

  • Maintain and provide suggestions for improvement to Company accounting policies and procedures

  • Assist with year-end financial audit support as well as healthcare industry statutory audits and reporting

  • Coordinate accounting projects and initiatives with other members of the Accounting Department or with other Company departments.

Primary Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Accounting or Finance from a four-year college or university and minimum five years related experience in healthcare accounting. In addition:

  • Ability to meet a constant stream of deadlines

  • Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively with different levels of employees

  • Highly detail-oriented and organized

  • Superior analytical and problem solving skills

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Proactively demonstrate a willingness to learn and perform complex skills and projects on a continual basis

  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook

  • Experience using MS Dynamics Great Plains accounting software

  • Experience using Evident ERP system.

Work Environment

  • Standard indoor office working environment with no travel required

  • Long periods of sitting at a desk while working at a desktop computer

  • Position requires regular professional interaction with employees at all levels of the Company and periodic interface with external Company relations
