Summary:

The Director of Communications is responsible for the planning, development and implementation of all of KARM’s marketing strategies, marketing communications, and public relations activities, both external and internal, and special event fundraisers. KARM’s marketing process is our method to get our message to our targeted audience, and how to generate prospects for our volunteer and fundraising departments.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Execute a coordinated marketing and communications strategy ensuring KARM’s marketing mission and vision are pertinent and practiced throughout the organization
  • Manage on-line content and social media communications (written content, resources, website, etc.)
  • Draft press releases, proposals, official correspondence and other communiqués as required
  • Review and edit our direct mail content, including quarterly newsletters and online eAppeals
  • Develop and manage marketing campaigns
  • Coordinate media relations
  • Support the success of fundraising events annually (such as content or script writing)
  • Support the annual President’s Gathering fundraising event as “creative director” guiding the theme and creative direction of the event from beginning to end
  • Market events to target audiences
  • Work with staff, donors and volunteers to develop and maintain a positive image of KARM’s programs and events
  • Develop plans and budgets for communications and marketing and public relations activities
  • May be responsible for supervision of other staff members, including the evaluation of their performance
  • Serve as an ambassador to the community on behalf of KARM, often as the spokesperson or “face” to the media
  • Protect KARM’s brand, and demonstrate KARM’s values
  • Performs other duties as required
  • Coordinate the launch and ongoing operations of KARM’s Podcast

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  1. Sound verbal, written, and public speaking communication skills
  2. Ability to make cold calls to individuals and companies
  3. Demonstrated leadership ability, organizational skills and sound interpersonal skills
  4. Self-starter, able to work with little direct supervision
  5. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and function as a positive team member
  6. Ability to think strategically and effectively adapt to change
  7. Demonstrated competency in meeting deadlines and accomplishing departmental objectives
  8. Must be outgoing, high-energy and able to multi-task
  9. Proficient in Microsoft applications


Education & Experience:

  1. Three to five years related experience, five years preferred
  2. Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications or related field (or relevant industry experience)
  3. Commitment to Christian faith required


Working Conditions:

  1. Office setting on KARM maintained property
  2. Able to be “on call” for after hour and weekend media requests
  3. Frequent local travel to various KARM facilities and other locations
  4. Required attendance at major KARM events or functions
