We’re seeking an experienced manufacturing engineer who thrives on project work and is ready to embark on a new assignment. In this role, you’ll have the unique opportunity to enhance and refine the automotive manufacturing process. You’ll be part of a vibrant and innovative team, contributing to projects ensuring production processes are followed and operating optimally. A comprehensive understanding of machining processes, automotive design principles, cutting tools, and GD&T is essential, as is proficiency in basic 2D CAD software.

In this role, you'll spend 75% of your time working remotely; the remaining 25% will be onsite in Romulus, Michigan.

To be considered, you must live within 60 miles of Detroit, MI. We will not consider candidates who need sponsorship now or in the future.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze powertrain part prints, identify and organize all features and dimensions produced during the machining process, and create an Excel list in a provided template
  • Use the quality Control Plan to identify which part print features are being checked, note gaging or measurement method and frequency in the Excel template
  • Review cutting tool preset machine programs or Tool Control document to find additional features of the cutting tool that are being checked at this point in the manufacturing process
  • Make note of part print features not being checked either by the Control Plan or the Tool Control document
  • Provide a list of all features and their inspection method or lack of inspection method for review by the plant
  • Utilize CAD software for drawing review and analysis
  • Must have the ability to prioritize and identify the proper sequence of tasks to complete the assignment
  • Ability to communicate with team members and management, providing regular updates on process improvements, challenges, and potential issues
  • Analyze prints, processed, and work orders to identify discrepancies that could create production or quality issues

Qualifications:

  • Open for project work, with a bachelor’s degree in engineering or similar experience is preferred
  • Familiarity with Computer Numerical Control (CNC) and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) software
  • Thorough understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
  • Comprehensive understanding of manufacturing processes, tooling, and design principles
  • Experience using CAD software and knowledge of how to use AutoCAD is ideal
  • Strong technical knowledge and ability in process engineering disciplines
  • Solid understanding of high-volume manufacturing methods, processes, and machining
  • Excellent project management skills, able to work remotely and with limited direction
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an intermediate knowledge of Excel
  • Able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening

Do you approach projects with analytical thinking and logic? Are you skilled at reading blueprints, analyzing work orders, and using GD&T? If you possess the skills and experience we seek, we invite you to apply or contact Sue McAlpine at susan.mcalpine@sdmsconnect.com.
