The Tooling Technician is responsible for the comprehensive management of tools and equipment used in manufacturing processes, extending beyond traditional tool crib duties.
This role involves the maintenance, repair, and optimization of tooling systems, as well as supporting production efficiency through innovative solutions and proactive problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities:
Tool Maintenance and Repair: Perform routine and emergency maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of tooling equipment to ensure consistent performance and minimize production downtime.
Tool Design and Modification: Collaborate with engineers and production teams to design, modify, and improve tooling systems based on specific production needs, enhancing tool functionality and efficiency.
Installation and Setup: Oversee the installation, setup, and calibration of new tooling and equipment to ensure they meet production requirements and operate effectively.
Inspection and Testing: Conduct detailed inspections and performance tests on tools and equipment to ensure they meet safety and quality standards, and proactively address any issues.
Documentation: Maintain comprehensive records of tool usage, maintenance, repairs, modifications, and inspections, ensuring that all documentation is accurate and up-to-date.
Quality Assurance: Monitor and adjust tooling processes to meet stringent quality standards and specifications, working closely with quality assurance teams to resolve any discrepancies.
Troubleshooting: Provide advanced troubleshooting support for complex tooling issues, utilizing diagnostic tools and methods to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines, ensuring that tooling and equipment are used in compliance with safety regulations and best practices.
Training and Support: Deliver training and guidance to production staff on the proper use, maintenance, and troubleshooting of tooling equipment, promoting best practices and efficient operations.
Continuous Improvement: Engage in continuous improvement initiatives, recommending and implementing enhancements to tooling processes, equipment, and workflows to drive operational efficiency and reduce costs.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including engineering, production, and maintenance, to integrate tooling solutions that support overall manufacturing objectives and resolve interdepartmental issues.
Inventory Management: Manage tooling inventory, ensuring that essential tools and parts are stocked and readily available, and optimize inventory levels to balance cost and accessibility.
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate degree in a related field is preferred.
Experience: Proven hands-on experience in tool maintenance, repair, setup, and optimization.
Skills:
Strong mechanical and technical skills, with the ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and computer-based maintenance systems.
Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and resolve complex issues.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly to diverse teams.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, demonstrating strong organizational skills.
Knowledge:
Familiarity with safety standards and regulations related to tooling and manufacturing.
Understanding of manufacturing processes, tooling requirements, and quality control measures.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry heavy tools and equipment.
Capability to work in various physical conditions, including standing for extended periods, working in confined spaces, and exposure to machinery and noise.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a manufacturing environment, with potential exposure to varying temperatures and industrial noise levels.
