Job DescriptionJob Description

Position Overview

Shelter House is a community of residents, staff and volunteers working together to provide basic human services for the men and women of the Greater Cincinnati area who are experiencing homelessness. The Engagement Specialist is responsible for building a trusting relationship with clients of the Shelter and helping them move into housing programs.

Essential Job Duties

  • Effectively transfer clients from intake to case management

  • Completes Step-up Orientations daily

  • Provides Shelter Director with Step-up recommendations

  • Completes intakes into the Shelter as needed

  • Ensure client checklist are completed within 7 days of them entering the Shelter.

  • Connect clients with services such as clinic services, PATH services, and Recovery services.

  • Works with clients to develop housing plans/goals before they are stepped up

  • Keep record of all client interactions in VESTA system, including scanning documents into the VESTA system

  • Assist clients with apartment applications as needed

  • Occasionally assist Case Managers with apartment viewings when they are unavailable. This is not to be done unless there has been a directive from the Shelter Director.

  • Conduct drug and alcohol outreach

  • Complete VI-SPDADTs

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Health, Sociology or other related fields; 2 years of experience in field of mental health or substance abuse can be substituted for education.

  • CPR certified

  • Ability to administer NARCAN

  • Must be available to work weekends, nights and holidays.

  • Since the Engagement Specialist have the ability to drive clients in their personal vehicle on occasion, they need to have the following: Valid driver’s license with good driving record, daily access to private insured vehicle during work hours and the ability to be approved by ShelterHouse insurer.

  • Experience in deescalating hostile situation and redirecting in a positive manner

  • Must be able to display assertiveness is warranted situations

  • Detail Oriented and Organized
