We are seeking an Environmental, Health, and Safety Specialist for our client in St. Louis, MO. The Environmental, Health, and Safety Specialist will help develop environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices within the organization. They will assist in regulatory compliance with EPA, Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Department of Homeland Security and OSHA. They will ensure compliance with SDS and labeling requirements in U.S., Mexico and Canada. And they will conduct inspections to ensure applicable health, safety, and environmental regulations are being met.

 

Responsibilities:

 

· Conduct comprehensive assessments of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices within the organization.

· Analyze and interpret data related to ESG factors and surveys for customers.

· Develop and implement strategies to enhance environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and governance practices.

· Improve recycling efforts of the company.

· Participate in inspections when the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MoDNR), or Department of Homeland Security (DHS) come for an inspection.

· Create finished good safety data sheets and labels. Ensure those SDS are available for shipments and given to customers. Also send SDS to Chemtrec.

· Review new raw materials and enter safety information. Ensures that safety data sheets are maintained and readily accessible when needed.

· Ensure compliance with hazardous waste regulations and perform training. Perform hazardous waste inspections as well as schedule hazardous waste pickups within the 90-day storage period.

· Perform recordkeeping and emissions reporting per the construction permits and operating permit.

· Ensures TSCA compliance for raw materials and finished goods.

· Handles customer requests when they ask for verification of regulated substances in their products.

· Conduct safety inspections, assist with implementation of corrective actions and track observations to closure.

· Perform pre-startup safety reviews for newly purchased equipment.

· Conduct safety-related training for employees and outside contractors.

· Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

· Extensive knowledge of environmental and safety regulations and policies.

· Proficiency with technology and equipment used in environmental and safety inspections.

· Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Education and Experience:

· Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Health, and Safety; Biology; Chemistry; or related field required.

· One to three years of related experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

· Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections.

· Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at a time.
