Job Summary:

As the Environmental Health and Safety Manager you will be responsible for overseeing the Trafera Safety Program by designing effective safety programs, monitoring safety compliance, reporting safety issues and progress to supervisors, managers, as well as senior leadership. You will be responsible for establishing policies that will create and maintain a safe workplace. You will also be able to discover opportunities for improving conditions and execute various safety programs. The ability to communicate guidelines to all levels of employees is essential. The goal is to ensure the workplace meets all regulatory expectations and actively supports a culture of occupational health and safety while meeting environmental objectives.

Position Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Directly champion Trafera’s Safety Program in its entirety including but not limited to Trafera’s Safety Manual, AWAIR program as well as ongoing updates to Trafera’s cloud based storage files accessible to Leadership and all relevant Trafera employees
  • Full comprehension of DOT rules and regulations (including potential audit information requirements) to ensure compliance at all Trafera facilities including hazardous material hauling, commercial vehicle requirements, appropriate licenses for employees by location, and schedule of needed trainings for employees

  • Run annual MVR search and maintain DOT files for employees
  • Champion monthly and quarterly Safety Committee meetings, recaps, and assign follow-up tasks and deadlines
  • Recruit employees across all facilities to become Safety Committee leaders and members to become champions of Safety
  • Conduct safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance, evaluate performance, identify corrective action and implement follow up assessments
  • Identify hazards, risks, and recommend solutions as well as ways to prevent them from reoccurring across all Trafera facilities
  • Facilitate general applicable safety, health, and accident prevention training
  • Investigate all safety occurrences at Trafera to identify causes and provide necessary information to HR for worker’s compensation claims and processing
  • Monitor digital incident reports, track trends, follow-up on incidents with employees involved and document those details
  • Create EHS metrics, statistics, and provide reports and make recommendations for correction of problem areas. Staying ahead of current and upcoming trends in the market. Provide summary to management monthly and sooner if due to significant incident
  • Prepare, implement and monitor integration of policies to establish a culture of health and safety
  • Recommend solutions to issues, policy improvements, including options and costs for senior manager reviews and approvals
  • Establish target areas and long-range accident prevention and cost-control objectives
  • Monitor proposed developments in federal and state safety laws that could impact Trafera, in states where Trafera has employees and/or facilities
  • Maintain OSHA records and annual online reporting and annual facility posting notices.
  • Ensure all existing and upcoming facilities have the required safety, first aid, eyewash stations, AED, MDS, and PPE equipment are readily available, centrally located, visible, while ensuring employees are properly trained in these areas
  • Facilitate necessary drills (fire, tornado, shelter in place, hazmat) are being completed and documented at all Trafera facilities
  • Continuous safety updates to Trafera employees keeping safety top of mind
  • Spearhead new initiatives for EHS programs, staying ahead of upcoming trends in the market
  • Develop new and improve current environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors for sustainability efforts across departments and facilities – while staying up to date on necessary reporting
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Full comprehension of DOT rules and regulations (including potential audit information requirements)
  • Understanding of legal health, safety regulations, and guidelines
  • Skilled in communication, interpersonal interactions, and managing through conflict
  • Strong attention to detail, observation, thoroughness, and organizational abilities
  • Strong prioritization, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to:
    • research and stay up to date on all safety related requirements
    • identify hidden and visual hazards and communicate those with necessary teams to prevent injury
    • operate in a self-directed manner, while also taking direction as needed
    • produce reports and develop and implement relevant policies through group presentations

Education and Experience:

  • Required:
    • High school diploma
    • Minimum of 2 years of related safety experience
  • Preferred:
    • Bachelor’s degree in related field
    • 3+ years of related safety experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Obtain necessary certifications as needed for role (OSHA 30, First Aid/AED Training, etc.)

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to travel (estimate 5-10% with a couple of overnight stays annually) to multiple locations and perform safety audits
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 80% of the time
  • Ability to lift and carry or otherwise move a laptop computer regularly
