Position Title: Material Handler

FLSA: Non-Exempt Full-time

Reports to: Plant Manager -AL

Position Summary

Material Handler plays a crucial role in efficiently managing the flow of materials and parts throughout the Company. Responsibilities involve performing shipping and receiving transactions of inventoried and non-inventoried parts and materials in the ERP system with accuracy and according to Quality Control, Purchasing and Accounting standards. Process and procedures will require attention to detail, maintaining proper inventory controls, oversight of unloading, loading, staging material activities, and on-time delivery and customer satisfaction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Material Handling

• Operate the fork trucks and overhead cranes to load, unload, move, and store materials
• Use proper rigging and lifting techniques to move material safely throughout the facility
• Identify materials according to the pick list
• Stage materials in various workstations according to pick lists and job packets
• Maintain storage areas organization for efficient material movement
• Maintain and clean storage areas daily
• Empty and weigh material scrap hoppers daily
• Conduct pre-shift inspections of material handling equipment, report all issues to maintenance
• Transport local deliveries to vendor and customer locations as needed
• Ensure material transactions includes proper labeling and material sign-outs are completed properly in the ERP system
• Prioritize end of month duties to include scrap/recycling pickups, P.O. receiving completions, material sigh-outs, and copper reconciliations
• Maintains scrap reports for vendor accuracy to share with Accounting department monthly
• Report and follow-up with maintenance on all equipment issues

Inventory Control

• Complete proper material sign-outs in the ERP system
• Perform inventory cycle count audits daily, quarterly and annually
• Ensure proper labeling of materials received before placement in respective yard and storage areas
• Ensure all scrap material is stored in designated location
• Verify quantity accuracy of materials on all pick lists and incoming Purchase Order (P.O.)
• Audit regularly to ensure materials are stored properly in the correct locations
• Ensure materials/jobs are being moved daily from workstation to workstation
• Assist in relocating product of Quality Control (QC) into stock room locations or shipping
• Notify Production team regarding changes to inventory discrepancies
• Partner with Purchasing and Production regarding the Returned Material Authorization (RMA) process and Non-conforming Material Requisition (NCMR’s) which includes all in-house and vendor discrepancies
• Generate ERP reports for management regarding inventory levels, stock movement, and discrepancies and suggest optimization strategies
• Attend weekly Production meetings
• Notify Material Handlers on inventory cycle count audit locations that are to be performed daily, quarterly, and annually
• Maintains and leads proper labeling of materials received before placement in respective yard and storage areas
• Ensure all product is being relocated properly to all locations

Shipping and Receiving

• Prepare and package product shipments (domestic and international) matching customer requirements
• Verify with Quality Control department on shipment readiness
• Prepare shipment and transfer orders, and notify Production Specialist and/or Plant Manager of outgoing material
• Receive all incoming material (inventory and non-inventory) into the ERP system
• Verify the quantity and quality of received goods. Report any issues to Purchasing and the Plant Manager
• After materials are received into the ERP system, forward all packing slips to Accounting
• Collaborate with Purchasing and Accounting to ensure P.O. receipts and pricing is accurate
• Use the ERP system/production schedule to look at future shipments and communicate what is upcoming to the Plant manager
• Communicate with relevant departments about potential shipping delays
• Generate NORF (notice order ready for shipment) document and collaborate with Logistics Specialist on ready shipments
• Specialist on ready shipments
• Verifying shipment material with customer orders to ensure accuracy
• Ensure customer and order specific shipping guidelines are met (ex. International crates, customer specific documents are packaged with shipment)
• Generate vendor, miscellaneous, and transfer order packing lists through ERP, generate shipping labels using the UPS System, coordinate with the Logistics Specialist on shipper details
• Conduct final packaging inspections of outgoing goods to ensure they meet quality standards
• Coordinate with the Logistics Specialist regarding schedule for pickups and deliveries
• Forward all signed Bills of Lading and relevant shipping documentation to Logistics Specialist
• Coordinate with Purchasing to keep needed shipping materials in stock (ex. Pallets, boxes, misc. wood, shipping labels)

Truck Delivery Driver

• Drive Trucks for customer deliveries/drop offs
• Verify loads against shipping papers and deliver copies of receipts for loads picked up
• Load and unload truck other than in customer’s plant. In customer’s plant, this operator will be responsible for the care of the truck
• Present yourself professionally while in front of all customers/vendors
• Follow all safety rules and regulations when driving and also while on site at customers/vendors
• Must update and follow Vehicle Maintenance requirements and schedule maintenance visits
• Inspect truck equipment and supplies such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil, water, etc.
• Perform emergency roadside repairs such as changing tires, installing light bulbs, fuses, and tire chain

QUALIFICATIONS

• Knowledge of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and safety program
• Manufacturing and business acumen
• Must be detailed oriented to ensure proper material identification, inventory counts, and stock levels are exact in the ERP system.
• Organizational and time management skills related to inventory and non-inventoried transactions in ERP system.
• Print Reading/Bill of Material knowledge
• Proficient with scanners, cell phone, computers, ERP software, Microsoft Office Suite of Products, excel.
• Self-starter with the initiative and innovative solutions to solve problems and evolve the material. handling team’s role in the process
• Use of effective verbal and written communication skills both internally and externally.
• Capable of operating other plant machinery, radical arm saw, nail gun, etc.
• Must be able to operate and perform preventative maintenance on all company trucks
• Knowledge of properly securing a load per DOT regulations
• Must be able to pass physical, drug screen, and background test

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• 3+ years of equivalent work experience in material handling, shipping, and receiving
• Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent
• Inventory control experience needed with knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software.
• Prior driver and delivery experience
• Prior fork truck and overhead crane experience
• Updated driver's license and clear driving record and Medical Card
• Advanced excel software experience
• ISO, Safety, General Shipping and Receiving Procedures Training
• ERP System Training
• Fork truck, overhead crane, and related plant equipment training
• CDL is a nice to have, but not required, CDL Medical Card would be required with CDL
