Job DescriptionJob Description

We are seeking a full-time Grounds/Landscaper to work within our community.  This position is 12-month, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30, Monday - Friday with occasional weekends.

 

Responsibilities:

· Perform landscaping and turf, garden, tree maintenance as part of the Grounds Department.

· Perform turf mowing and related work [herbicide spraying fertilizing, seeding and aerating].

· Run trash collection daily, as well as recycling and litter routes.

· Perform all grounds related tasks including but not limited to: mowing, raking, weeding, sweeping, shoveling, etc.

· Support the activities of the Grounds Department, staff, other personnel, and contractors to ensure effective and efficient maintenance of campus grounds and facilities.

· Operate hand and power equipment related to Grounds and general maintenance. Must be able to maintain, respect and care for equipment and Grounds vehicles.

· Support other Physical Plan departments to successively meet deadlines and support the Loomis Chaffee community and the school’s mission.

· Abide by all standards for safety and health guidelines, environmental regulations, quality and productivity by following established policies and procedures.

· Perform seasonal tasks as needed, including shoveling, clearing snow and ice from walks, stairs, and pathways.

· Perform other work and additional duties as assigned, including assisting other Physical Plan operations to complete assignments and being available for emergencies and scheduled “off – hour” work as needed.

· Assist in the supervision of seasonal employees, student workers, and outside contractors.

 

 

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

· High School diploma or equivalent required.

· Understanding of various outdoor/grounds trades (mowing, raking, planting, equipment operations, etc.

 

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required:

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following skills:

· Demonstrated good organizational/priority management skills, and oral communication skills.

· Ability to analyze situations and information, consider the risks and implications and implement a plan of action.

· Must be able to work as a team member and effectively with other assigned personnel including faculty, contractors, and students.

· Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision, have initiative, and be a self-starter.

· Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job including but not limited to walking around campus, climbing stairs, ladders, scaffolds or platforms, lifting/carrying heavy objects and working in confined spaces.

· Willingness to perform other work as required by the department of Physical Plant.

 

 

Licenses, Certifications, Bonding and/or Testing Required:

 

· Must posses a valid Driver’s License.

 

· Pesticide applicator or operator’s license desirable.

 

· Pre-employment physical, drug screen and background check required.

 

 

 

Working Conditions:

 

· Conditions will vary from indoor, outdoor, and field environments in all weather conditions.

 

· Have the ability to regularly lift and/or move up to ten (10) pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds, and occasionally lift over fifty (50+) pounds.

 

· Must be able to work off a lift, scaffolding, and/or ladder (over 30 feet above the floor in some cases).

 

· Have the ability to consistently stand/walk for up to 8 hours per day, frequently and repeatedly bending, twisting, reaching and kneeling.

 

· Must have a satisfactory work record including good attendance.

 

 

Experience and Education Requirements:

 

· High School diploma or equivalent required.

 

· Understanding of various outdoor/grounds trades (mowing, raking, planting, equipment operations, etc.).
