Shipping & Receiving Specialist in Flint, MI

Contract: 6 months contract to hire (direct hire after 6 months)

Schedule: 100% on-site | Monday - Friday (7am - 3:30pm)

Compensation: $17-18/hour

Onboarding Requirements: Background check, drug screen, and employment verification

 

Job Summary

  • Ensure inventory accuracy through receiving, storing, picking, and cycle counts.
  • Collaborate closely with Warehouse Leads, MRP Planners, SMEs, and Customer staff to maintain part correctness.
  • Support site on-call activity to meet customer part requests on a weekly rotational basis.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Unload inbound material using powered industrial vehicles, fork trucks, and order pickers.
  • Verify the accuracy, quantity, and quality of parts; ensure parts received match packing slips and purchase orders.
  • Receive material into the SAP inventory system.
  • Work with MRP Planners, SMEs, and Suppliers to resolve inbound material discrepancies.
  • Maintain a non-conforming material (NCM) log and audit weekly until discrepancies are resolved.
  • Reverse SAP receipt transactions when material is to be returned to the supplier and prepare parts for shipping.
  • Process and ship material transfers to other GM plant locations.
  • Arrange transportation for part shipments to GM plants as needed.
  • Support cycle count activity as needed.
  • Perform other tasks/duties as required.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment.

 

Work Experience Requirements

  • Basic math, computer, and communication skills.
  • MRO/warehousing and inventory knowledge is a plus but not required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the employer’s insurance carrier.

 

Skills

  • Strong attention to detail and good with numbers.
  • Ability to problem solve and use critical thinking skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Basic computer skills using Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Prepare and maintain required documentation to support day-to-day operations.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Required to balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
  • Must have the ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Workstation is in a warehouse and is subject to hot and cold temperatures.

 

Minimum Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Windows.
