Education Program Manager – Nonprofit

Wonderful opportunity for Education Program Manager or Educator looking to make an impact with 50+ year old nonprofit building awareness of Indigenous communities in the Bay Area and beyond.

Reporting to and in collaboration with the Museum Director, you will design, promote, coordinate and implement the educational programs of the museum utilizing the museum’s permanent and temporary exhibits, collections, curriculum, the natural surroundings, and events to educate and engage audiences of all ages, with a primary focus on children, youth and families. As a part of a small highly collaborative team, you thrive on wearing many hats and are happy to jump in to assist wherever needed.

You will:

  • Develop and implement educational programs both on and off site. Examples include:
    • Coordination and delivery of curriculum and tours for field trip programs, reaching for approximately 200 school-age class visits.
    • Coordination and delivery of a Nature-Based Indigenous Playgroup pilot program.
  • Maintain and grow school and community partnerships; coordinate with educators and school administrators.
  • Track and drive measures of success and impact for educational programs, including visitor feedback surveys, field trip evaluations, and any other necessary tools.
  • Manage class field trip and tour scheduling and calendar. Book and confirm class reservations, and maintain an updated calendar using the current software.
  • Assist in planning and implementing other public programs and events, such as film and speaker series, volunteer work days, and the annual Trade Feast.
  • Assist in the installation and de-installation of exhibits as needed.
  • Develop and implement a volunteer docent program, including the recruitment strategy and training materials of volunteers.
  • Help welcome Museum visitors.
  • Promote the Museum with classes and visitors through membership drives and special events.
  • Take part in staff-wide cleaning days.

You have:

  • Coursework or degree in education or education-related field, with previous training or teaching experience.
  • Experience in developing education programs and curriculum.
  • Ability and desire to work with learners of all ages, with special focus on children, youth, families, and educators.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage with diverse audiences. Able to effectively and succinctly communicate to individuals and large groups
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as collaboratively with a team. Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships based on mutual trust and respect.
  • Strong organizational skills with strong attention to detail and proactive problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook.
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification or willingness to acquire certification within 6 weeks of employment.
  • Experience working in a museum and familiarity with collection management software (PastPerfect and CatalogIt are a plus) a plus
  • Educational focus or previous work experience in the history of California Indians, Native Americans, Alaskan Natives, and/or Native Hawaiians OR lived experience that includes Indigenous teachings or Traditional Ecological Knowledge a plus+
