We are seeking a Senior Accountant to join our corporate hotel accounting team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in managing the financial health of our growing hotel portfolio. This role involves meticulous financial analysis, reconciliation, and reporting, with an emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail. The Senior Accountant will report directly to the Corporate Hotel Controller and will be based in our corporate office in Great Neck, NY.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Balance Sheet Reconciliation

  - Reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly, including cash accounts, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, other assets, accounts payable, accrued expenses, and other liability accounts.

  - Maintain a closing binder for each month, ensuring all necessary accounts are accurately reconciled.

 

Financial Statement Review

 

  - Review and analyze financial statements to identify variances to budget and prior periods.

  - Investigate and adjust discrepancies as needed, providing thoughtful insights during monthly conference calls to discuss hotel financial results.

 

Journal Entry Preparation

  - Prepare journal entries, including payroll and payroll accruals, vacation accruals, benefit calculations, and other accrued expenses.

 

Inventory & Cost Control Review

  - Review inventories and cost control reconciliation, investigating any unusual items and ensuring accuracy.

 

Payroll Management

  - Review property payroll for accuracy and consistency, verifying that payroll changes are properly documented and supported.

 

Tax Return Preparation

  - Review and prepare monthly sales, use, and occupancy tax returns, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.

 

Accounts Receivable Management

  - Review accounts receivable and allowances for doubtful accounts, ensuring that all entries are accurate and justified.

 

Daily Activity Report Review

  - Review Daily Activity Reports for accuracy, maintaining close communication with hotel staff to ensure all financial activities are correctly recorded.

 

Qualifications

 

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

- CPA or progress toward CPA designation preferred.

- 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in the hospitality industry.

- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.

- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.

- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with hotel staff and management.
