Position Summary: The Principal works collaboratively to direct and support all members of the school staff to communicate effectively with parents. The Principal oversees the day-to-day operations handling disciplinary matters, hiring of teachers and other personnel.

The Principal serves as the education leader responsible for managing the policies, regulations and procedures to ensure all students are supervised in a safe learning environment that meets the approved curricula and mission of the school.

Essential Accountabilities:

· Systematically and collaboratively develop a positive culture to promote student growth and staff development.

· Articulate and model a clear vision of the school’s culture that involves students, families and staff.

· Ensure that there are processes and systems in place for budgeting, staffing, problem solving, communicating expectations and scheduling that result in organizing the work routines in the building.

· Communicate with school administration and leadership on all relevant matters as directed.

· Manage efficiently, effectively and safely to foster student achievement.

· Ensure that a Standards Aligned System is in place to address linkage of curriculum, instruction, assessment, data on student learning and teacher effectiveness based on research and best practices.

· Promote the success of all students, the positive interactions among building stakeholders and the professional growth of staff by acting with integrity, fairness and in an ethical manner.

· Manage, evaluate and supervise effective and clear procedures for the operation and function of the school consistent with the philosophy, mission, values and goals of the school. Ensure compliance with all laws, policies and regulations.

· Formal and informal supervision of Lower and Upper School Assistant Principals, K-8, Special Education and Specialist Teachers and Community Coordinator.

o Supervision of Assistant Principals: Includes weekly meetings to discuss teacher goals, classroom instruction, discipline tactics and techniques, incentives, and student/parent concerns. Evaluate lesson plans, coordinate and conduct classroom observations to encourage the use of a variety of instructional strategies and materials consistent with research on learning and child growth and development.

· Provide discipline in a fair and consistent manner. Serve as disciplinarian support for Assistant Principals. Assign and supervise lunch detention as needed. File all required reports regarding violence, vandalism, attendance and discipline matters. Enforce uniform policy.

· Establish schedules and procedures for the supervision of students in non-classroom areas (including before and after school).

· Coordinate and participate in all School-wide activities. (i.e. STEM Night, BINGO, Spring/Winter concerts, plays and Physical Education events).

o Oversee all committees and meetings.

o Maintains good public relations with the community. Be visible and maintain an open-door policy.

o Participate in elevated matters of parental concern.

o Work with the Community Coordinator to organize, administer, and direct student activities for the school community.

· Communicate regularly with staff, parents, stakeholders, and vendors.

· Support initiatives of Assistant Principals. Uphold Northwood Norms and Expectations. Maintain visibility with students, teachers, parents and leadership.

· Establish and promote high standards and expectations for all students and staff for academic performance and responsibility for behavior.

· Ensure a safe, orderly environment that encourages students to take responsibility for behavior and creates a high morale among staff and students.

· Interview and onboard Teachers and Substitute Teachers utilizing both online job postings and Agency support. Track attendance and performance of substitute teacher.

· Keep the board advised of employees not meeting their contractual agreement.

· Plan and organize professional development sessions and content presented including PLC Meetings. Track outside professional development for teachers, coordinate and document peer observations.

· Continue professional growth through activities such as continuing education coursework, workshops, and partnerships.

· Tracking Formative & Summative Assessment Data.

o Link It, F & P, Tier, Rosters, PSSA

· Prepare for all Northwood meetings with CEO, Director of Operations, Director of Student Services.

o Advise leadership of concerns about substance abuse, child abuse, child neglect, severe medical/social conditions, etc.

· Coordinate, analyze, review student achievement and behavior data to make informed curricular, scheduling and staffing decisions.

· Communicate results to all stakeholders.

· Use effective written and oral communication and presentation skills when addressing students, staff, parents and the community.

· In a timely manner, complete and maintain all records and reports.

· Protect confidentiality of records and information.

· Relevant duties as assigned by school administration.

Education/Experience:

· Master's degree in education administration or a related field.

· Three (3) - five (5) years Principal experience preferred.

· Three (3) years teaching experience.

· Active and Valid Pennsylvania state credentials and clearances.

· PA Principal Administrative 1 K-12 certification required.

Qualifications:

· Knowledge of curriculum, and instructional methods & strategies.

· Knowledge of child development, learning and behavior.

· Ability to manage student behavior, communicate effectively, and work well with outers in the school community.

· Ability to communicate effectively with school administration, staff, students, parents and other professionals.

Working Conditions: Typically, will work in an office in the school’s main building. The Principal will sit in on classes, host school events and assemblies, attend both on-site and off-site meetings and represent the school at conferences and local or regional events. The Principal may work evenings or weekends to meet with parents and other members of the community.

Physical Requirements: There are physical aspects of this position to successfully carry out essential job functions such as ability to lift or carry supplies, textbooks, and equipment up to 30 pounds. Must be able to sit, stand, bend, stoop, reach, grab, pull, see hear, and speak daily. Employees in this classification may be subject to work environments that have exposure to weather or interiors with extremes of heat and/or cold, wet and/or humid conditions, high noise levels, and various work-related hazards.
