Company Summary

VintaBio is a technology company focused on simplifying AAV and lentivirus production. Our custom research and development approach is designed to integrate into services, including platform bridging, GLP toxicology material, and GMP manufacturing. Our research core produces high-yield and world-class POC vectors. Through a comprehensive production workflow that utilizes VintaBio's proprietary cell lines and transfection reagents, we expedite the path to the clinic, offer more reliable manufacturing, and improve economics.

Position Summary

This position is part of the Technology and Manufacturing team responsible for VintaBio technology development, process development, and both non-GMP and GMP manufacturing. The downstream Senior/Principal Scientist is a highly experienced individual with deep expertise downstream viral vector processing. A Senior/Principal Scientist is both a technical leader responsible for the hands-on execution of experiments, production batches, etc. as well as a team manager. A Senior/Principal Scientist is expected to provide strategic technical guidance, serve as a role model to junior scientists, collaborate cross-functionally, and provide technical representation for VintaBio at industry events.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead technology/process development and manufacturing activities for all bioprocessing steps, ensuring delivery of the activity in alignment with VintaBio strategy
  • Ensure end-to-end design, execution, and risk mitigation activities across all work packages
  • Independently coordinate technology/process development and manufacturing activities and lead the creation of project plans, timelines, experimental execution, data analysis, and report generation
  • Serve as a technical Subject Matter Expert on client projects and communicate technical updates, results, and data to clients
  • Work closely with suppliers and other partners to drive forward technology development initiatives
  • Represent VintaBio at industry conferences and serve as a spokesperson for VintaBio’s technologies and services
  • Serve as a good financial steward to the Technology and Manufacturing team at VintaBio and help to implement budgetary adherence and financial governance
  • Manage a small team of scientists within the Technology and Manufacturing group and implement plans for employee growth and retention
  • Team Management:
  • Supervise/coach and train employees and manage routine team operations. Build and manage a high performing Team through hiring, training, supervision, mentoring and reviewing of key personnel.
  • Create and lead a culture/environment of inclusion by exemplifying inclusive behaviors, promoting the interaction and integration of diverse individuals into teams to positively impact the company.
  • Anticipate changing circumstances and prepare function/department to maintain performance objective; promote a culture of positivity, continuous improvement, and adaptability/flexibility.
  • Accomplish financial objectives by forecasting requirements, managing budget, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions.
  • Optimize workplace productivity and promote professional growth through hiring, training, motivating, and directing employees.

Education and Experience

  • Education: Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Biological Engineering, Biotechnology, Biology, Biochemistry, or other related field. Master’s or PhD preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum Bachelor’s degree + 6 years of industry experience, Master’s degree + 4 years of industry experience, or PhD + 3 years of industry experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Significant expertise in various methodologies used for downstream viral vector production, preferably across early stage, late stage, and commercial assets
  • Demonstrated management, mentorship, or scientific leadership experience
  • Expertise in experimental design, execution, and data analysis
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills
  • Innovative and creative mindset, with demonstrated problem solving capabilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Visio and data analysis software.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 15lbs
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods
  • Excellent manual dexterity and ability to perform precise movements with fingers/hands

Other Physical Requirements: Must wear appropriate PPE in the labs and cleanrooms.

Work Environment: Work is primarily performed in the office, labs, and cleanrooms.
