● Midway through a $6M capital campaign that’s ahead of schedule and will expand affordable
housing capacity and grow social enterprise ventures and impact.
● Providing essential programs to nearly 400 refugees and immigrants weekly through the only
faith-based, community drop-in center for international newcomers in Cleveland.
● Leading community development efforts on the near west side including affordable housing,
youth programs, urban agriculture and providing grants to residents to improve the community.
● Partnering with churches and faith leaders across the region to create a network of training,
collaboration and collective impact for those communities often least seen by society, but of
unsurpassing value to God.
As a Major Gifts & Grants Manager, you will play a leadership role in this transformational work, driving
our fundraising efforts to support BHITC's programs and vision for our neighbors and the city. We seek
candidates well-versed in faith-based fundraising, who are versed in cultivating and inviting donors and
financial partners of influence to join BHITC in its mission.
The Major Gifts & Grants Manager will endeavor to deepen relationships with individuals, churches,
foundations and corporations giving $10,000 or more annually. You will also lead efforts to identify new
donors and institutional funders. Candidates should be experienced in major donor acquisition,
cultivation, retention, and stewardship. You will also oversee all grant-based fundraising, including
managing the efforts of a grant writer, strengthening relationships with foundation program staff, and
ensuring grant processes and reports are timely and accurate.
This position reports to the Executive Director and is part of a 6-person in-house Advancement team.
The selected candidate will join a dynamic movement of disciples committed to using a faith-forward
approach in addressing city challenges and making hope in Jesus Christ tangible.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Maintains a personal portfolio of major gift prospects (defined as those giving $2,500 or more).
Actively works to upgrade a qualified portfolio of supporters to annual contributions of $10,000
or more, as well as identify and solicit new major donors.
• Serve as the primary relationship manager for this portfolio, developing and implementing a
written donor strategy and relationship record of all interactions (moves management).
• Communicates with donors via face-to-face cultivation, solicitation and stewardship meetings,
as well as written proposals; ensures that each major donor and prospect has a clear strategy
and timeline for cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
• Works with Executive Director and Advancement Director to create and manage organizational
budget; track and report on progress to goals, including grant awards, gifts, and pledges.
• Oversees donor Giving Club strategies and participates in appreciation events, etc.
• Leads grant proposal development and submission—overseeing preparing and organizing
materials for proposals, and submitting and monitoring grant applications, including:
- Managing contracted grant writer.
o Maintains and deepens relationships with foundation funders.
o Prepares drafts of proposals and grant applications, and collaborates to finalize with
program staff, finance, and Executive Director.
o Maintains calendar of grants and prospects and all associated files.
o Oversees grant compliance and reporting, including outcome measurement and budget;
drafts compelling progress reports and program updates for funders.
o Ensures acknowledgment of funders/investors via website, newsletters and social media - Collaborates with Communications staff on regular fundraising appeals and campaigns across
various mediums, including email, direct mail, and social media. - Participates in staff meetings and organizational events.
- Serves on the Board-level Advancement Committee and Moves Management staff team.
Qualifications
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in major donor or grant fundraising.
• A bachelor’s degree; certificate in Fundraising or Nonprofit Management would be considered
an asset.
• Strong organizational and relationship-building skills; enjoys multi-tasking.
• Exceptionally persuasive written and verbal skills.
• Experienced at special events planning and management.
• Highly self-motivated and able to work autonomously.
• Proficient in Word processing.
• Ability to travel, access to a vehicle.
• Alignment with and passion for BHITC’s mission, vision and values.
