As a Major Gifts Officer, you will play a leadership role in this transformational work, driving our fundraising efforts to support BHITC's programs and vision for our neighbors and the city. We seek  candidates well-versed in faith-based fundraising, who are versed in cultivating and inviting donors and financial partners of influence to join BHITC in its mission. 


The Major Gifts Officer will endeavor to deepen relationships with individuals, churches, foundations, and corporations giving $10,000 or more annually. You will also lead efforts to identify new donors and  institutional funders. Candidates should be experienced in major donor acquisition, cultivation,  retention, and stewardship.


This position reports to the Executive Director and is part of a 6-person in-house Advancement team. The selected candidate will join a dynamic movement of disciples committed  to using a faith-forward approach in addressing city challenges and making hope in Jesus Christ tangible.  


Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Maintains a personal portfolio of major gift prospects (defined as those giving $2,500 or more).  Actively works to upgrade a qualified portfolio of supporters to annual contributions of $10,000  or more, as well as identify and solicit new major donors.  
  • Serve as the primary relationship manager for this portfolio, developing and implementing a written donor strategy and relationship record of all interactions (moves management). 
  • Communicates with donors via face-to-face cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship meetings, as well as written proposals; ensures that each major donor and prospect has a clear strategy  and timeline for cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. 
  • Works with Executive Director and Advancement Director to create and manage organizational budget; track and report on progress to goals, including grant awards, gifts, and pledges.
  •  Oversees donor Giving Club strategies and communications; participates in appreciation events,  etc. 
  • Collaborates with Communications staff on regular fundraising appeals and campaigns across various mediums, including email, direct mail, and social media.  
  • Develops and leads strategies to secure leadership sponsorships for fundraising events. 
  •  Participates in staff meetings and organizational events. 
  • Serves on the Board-level Advancement Committee and Moves Management staff team.  


Qualifications 

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in major donor or grant fundraising.  
  • A bachelor’s degree; certificate in Fundraising or Nonprofit Management would be considered  an asset. 
  • Strong organizational and relationship-building skills; enjoys multi-tasking.  
  • Exceptionally persuasive written and verbal skills. 
  • Experienced in special events planning and management. 
  • Highly self-motivated and able to work autonomously.  
  • Proficient in Word processing. 
  • Ability to travel and access to a vehicle.
