A busy Pedicatric practice is looking for a full time Medical Assistant.

Duties and responsibilities:
· Medical assistants are cross-trained to perform administrative and clinical duties
· Commitment to team approach to health care delivery.
· Constantly interact with other people and may have to handle several responsibilities at once.
· Maintain on-going tracing and appropriate documentation on referrals to promote team awareness and ensure patient safety.
· Ensure compliance and accurate registration, including patient demographic and current insurance information.
· Contact review organizations and ensure companies to ensure prior approval requirements are met. Present necessary medical information such as history, diagnosis and prognosis.
· Review details and expectations about the referrals with the patients.
· Establish and maintain relationships with identified service providers.
· Ensure referrals are addressed in a timely manner.
· Remind patients of scheduled appointments via mail or telephone.
· Ensure that patient’s primary care chart is up to date with information on specialist consults, hospitalizations, ER visits, and community organization related to their health.
Administrative Duties (may include, but not limited to):
· Answer phones as needed and triage appropriately when necessary
· Assist with securing referrals and making specialist or test appointments
· Relay messages as may be required by physician
· Order and stock supplies
· Attend regular patient care meetings (huddles) and practice meetings
· Be an active and engaged member of Patient-Centered Medical Home Team
· Ensure availability of treatment information by filing and retrieving patient records
Clinical Duties
- Escort patients to room and preparing patients for examination
- Assist the physician during exams and with paperwork preparation if needed
- Record height, weight, and blood pressure for well visit; chart and graph findings, pulse, RR, Lead, Hgb, glucose, cholesterol, vision, hearing screening, fluoride varnish, urine catheter, UA, stool, hem occult, strep, flu, RSV, Urine HCG, etc.,
- Provide immunizations to children
- Perform vision and hearing screenings
- Clean and restock rooms and for the day
- Assist as needed with securing referrals and making specialist or test appointments
- Prepare for and run laboratory tests
- Assist providers and nurses with procedures
- Collect and prepare laboratory specimen or perform basic laboratory test on premise.
Required EMR Tasks
- Identifies if immunization records are available and checks online registry
- For new patients, locates old records from filing or parent
- Obtains records release requests from parents
- Contacts patient’s previous providers to obtain immunization and other records
- Empties provider “out” baskets throughout the day
- Brings schedules to providers at the end of the day for following day patient schedule huddle or beginning of day for that day’s schedule of patients
Work environment:
The work of this position is performed in an environmentally controlled office environment. The position requires the ability to work under pressure and with a diverse population, including staff, clients, patients, insurance companies, and other members of the public on a regular basis. The position may cause frequent exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinical environment.
