The CFO oversees all the financial, accounting, and human resource functions of the company. The candidate will be responsible for delivering timely and accurate financial information to the owner, management team, external lenders, and vendors. The candidate will continuously monitor and improve the company’s accounting and finance policies, processes, and procedures to ensure the safeguard of all company assets and maximization of company profits.

Job Location: Sioux Falls, SD

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform and manage the accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory, general ledger, payroll, and other accounting functions.
  • Prepare monthly and annual financial statements including budget comparison.
  • Provide comprehensive financial updates to senior managers by evaluating, analyzing, and reporting appropriate data points.
  • Make (and implement) corrective actions to achieve budget goals.
  • Communicate financial information to external lenders in a timely manner.
  • Work with Sales Team in evaluating and establishing credit limits for customers.
  • Manage the preparation of the annual financial operating plan including presentation to external lenders.
  • Prepare and coordinate annual financial review with external accountants.
  • Prepare and coordinate collateral audits with lenders.
  • Coordinate preparation of Federal and State income tax returns by external accountants
  • Prepare federal and state monthly and quarterly tax returns.
  • Assist in product importation working with factory representatives, freight forwards and US customs brokers.
  • Develop, analyze, document, and implement internal controls.
  • Monitor account receivable aging and engage customers as needed.
  • Work with property and casualty insurance agent in establishing and obtaining appropriate types and limits of insurance coverages to protect company assets.
  • Work with health insurance agent and senior management team obtaining appropriate health and LTD insurance coverages.
  • Manage borrowing base with lenders to ensure adequate cash flow.
  • Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants.
  • Provide financial analyses as needed, including capital investments, pricing decisions and contract negotiations.
  • Ensure effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable Federal, State, and local regulatory laws/rules for financial and tax reporting.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and income tax laws
  • Manufacturing or cost accounting experience
  • Working knowledge of insurance and risk management
  • Proficient with QuickBooks, Microsoft Office Word / Excel, AS400
  • Proficient in the development and use of queries
  • Proven strong communication, interpersonal skills, leadership, and conflict resolution
  • Critical thinking and a proactive approach to problem-solving
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Hands-on self-starter

Education and Experience:

  • BS in Accounting or Finance – MBA preferred
  • Licensed CPA
  • 5+ years of senior financial leadership roles as Controller, Accounting Manager or CFO

  • Monday – Friday (8:00 am – 5:00 pm); occasional weekends / extended hours as workload requires
