The position includes managing all company assets, including vessels, cranes, and marine yard operations. From our base of operations in Buffalo, the position will also perform all associated management functions and multiple responsibilities required to mobilize, support, and demobilize the company’s equipment from marine and underwater construction projects nationwide. Having knowledge and experience to provide oversight to welders/fabricators while working on in-house structural fabrication and manufacturing projects a big plus. 

Responsibility will include maintaining all marine assets and company equipment in a dependable state of readiness, performance, and implementation. Performance of supervision, estimating, vessel maintenance & management, vessel services, fabrication services, hydraulic services, material management, and sub-contract services. The hands-on management position will oversee all shop and marine yard operations at our Buffalo facility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Develops among assigned personnel a consciousness for the need for safety and team work to attain all objectives.
  2. Reviews daily production requirements for marine yard operations with President to plan all work and personnel assignments.
  3. Supervises and directs assigned personnel on safely performing all assigned functions according to common sense principles and company policies and procedures.
  4. Anticipates and determines causes of delays in shift operations and takes appropriate action to meet required schedules.
  5. Reports promptly to President when delays occur, estimates time of delay and when normal operations will resume.
  6. Directs assigned personnel in the ordering and receipt of materials and supplies.
  7. Keeps the President informed of the performance of the assigned labor force and matters requiring his decision.
  8. Applies company employee relations policies in all dealings with employees.
  9. Maintains good housekeeping in the yard, shop facility and surrounding marine dock areas.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Assumes other activities and responsibilities from time to time as directed by President.
  2. Team leader in conducting facility-wide safety reviews and audits.
  3. Coordinate and collaborate with the President, identifying and implementing operational procedures, safe practices and record keeping that follow applicable regulations, laws, and standard industry practices.
  4. Assures that training needs of the marine yard are identified, and training programs are then researched and implemented.
  5. Assures that qualified personal is assigned for all job functions. Immediately stops operations where questionable activities occur and report to President.
  6. Monitor’s performance of direct report employees. Provides prompt and objective coaching and counseling. Provide constructive criticism and praise when required.
  7. Assures that a positive employee relations position is maintained. Ensure that the company’s management principals, policies, and safety programs are consistently practiced.
  8. Assures that effective communications are maintained within assigned labor force. Where appropriate, informs subordinate employees as to plans and progress. Takes lead role in conducting assigned employee safety discussions and toolbox talk sessions.
  9. Makes recommendations to the President for improving the effectiveness of company policy or practices.
  10. Recommends techniques to improve safety, productivity, increase efficiencies, cut costs, and take advantage of opportunities.
  11. Maintain all vessels and marine equipment fleet.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  1. Must possess strong personal leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  2. Graduate of a 4-year degree program in construction management; or equivalent construction career experience.
  3. 10 years’ experience in marine construction industries, preferably as supervisor.
  4. Understands the supervisory responsibilities of purchasing, inventory control, production control as well as shipping / receiving.
  5. Experience in working in a union and non-union environment.
  6. Ability to train and motivate personnel.
  7. Willingness to work special shifts and travel as responsibilities dictates.

The company typically employs 20-40 commercial divers, operating engineers, and marine tradesmen daily.
