Taconic Resources for Independence, Inc. advocates for the civil rights of individuals with disabilities in Dutchess County and empowers them to lead self-directed lives with independence and dignity.

Position: MOBILE BENEFITS COUNSELOR
Hours: FULL TIME

Description: Provide benefits advisement to individuals with disabilities who are reentering the job market. Must be familiar with Social Security and DSS regulations and be knowledgeable in SSI, SSDI, PASS Plans, Medicare Parts A, B, D, and all Medicaid programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Complete program deliverables for consumers with mental health disabilities
  • *Complete the online SOAR Works curriculum within the first six months of the hire date
  • Participate in committees and conduct classes, workshops, and trainings throughout Dutchess County
  • Provide in-house staff and affiliate agencies with current laws/regulations pertaining to SSI, SSDI, and other benefit programs to assist consumers
  • Attend planning meetings, in-service trainings, public forums, scheduled Job Placement Consortium meetings, and other relevant meetings
  • Completion of quarterly, annual, and other requested data reports
  • Maintain open pathways of communication with the local SSA/DCFS offices, and other affiliate agencies.
  • Utilize web-based communication platforms, such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams to connect with consumers
  • Perform other program-related tasks as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or two-year degree and/or at least 3 years of professional experience in the
    human services field
  • Familiarity with Social Security Benefits and Department of Social Service programs is preferred
  • Familiarity of Independent Living philosophy/disability advocacy
  • Proficient writing and communication skills
  • Excellent MS Office knowledge and proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Publisher
  • Outstanding organizational time management skills
  • Knowledgeable of NYS Medicaid, Medicare, DCFS/DSS, and SSA programs

Must have a valid driver's license.

Personal experience as a peer support worker is a plus.
