The Position
Join our growing team Marquis Medical Supplies is looking for a Medical Billing Specialist with a minimum of two years’ experience to become an integral part of our billing and collections team. This person will be a full-time, goal-oriented, revenue-driven, highly accurate and motivated biller.
Required Skills
o Specific knowledge of Medicare, commercial, and third-party insurance company rules and guidelines governing billing activities
o Computer experience is essential, including, but not limited to: all Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Outlook, Word, etc.), medical billing software and applications, healthcare web-based applications, electronic claims editing software
o Knowledge of CPT4, ICD-9/ICD-10, HCPC, UB04 coding; familiarity with HCFA and medical terminology, procedure codes and billing procedures
o Working knowledge of insurance billing/coding rules and regulations (state and federal) for claims processing
o Intermediate experience of A/R principles, in & out-of-network claims, working and reconciling reports daily, following-up on claims
o Excellent customer service skills
o Must have strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize activities
o Ability to manage relationships with various insurance payors
o Experience in filing claim appeals with insurance companies to ensure maximum entitled reimbursement.
o Responsible with use of confidential information; must have HIPPA certification or willingness to become certified.
o Perform to company standards of compliance with policies and procedures.
o Ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with fellow employees, clients, and patients.
o Ability to work in a production-driven environment.
o Excellent verbal and written communication skills resulting in positive communication.
o Ability to demonstrate analytical and mathematical skills
o Must know appropriate use of modifiers including NCCI edits, LCDs and NCDs as applicable for specific facility/payor assigned
Detailed Work Activities
o Accept incoming claims from all over the United States and field them to their appropriate destination.
o Data entry of all patient demographics and insurance information.
o Verify completeness and accuracy of all claims prior to submission.
o Ensure all claims are submitted with a goal of zero errors.
o Timely follow-up on insurance claims, denials, exceptions and exclusions.
o Read and interpret insurance explanation of benefits.
o Utilize monthly aging accounts receivable report to follow-up on unpaid claims aged over 30 days.
o Make necessary arrangements for medical records requests, completion of additional information requests, etc. as requested by insurance companies.
o Respond to inquiries from insurance companies, patients, and providers.
o Be attentive and aware of insurance processing errors that could result in lost revenue for the company.
o Post deductibles, co-pays, co-insurances, contractual adjustments and payments.
Additional Requirements
o Two (2) years medical and/or healthcare billing/collections experience required
o Bilingual in English and Spanish a PLUS
o High school diploma or GED required
o Must pass skills exam prior to being offered position in order to ensure capability of performing necessary job duties
o Willingness to submit to a background check
o Must be authorized to work in the United States
