Reporting to the Senior Manager for Operations and Logistics, the maintenance technician assists in maintaining the athletic buildings and supporting athletic program needs on a daily and seasonal basis. The technician also serves as the Certified Pool Operator and must maintain the certification to perform daily maintenance and chemical testing of the pools and cold tubs.

When emergencies and/or extreme weather conditions occur, the functions of this job may be deemed essential and employees must report to work and/or remain on duty during their regularly scheduled work hours or the work hours designated by their supervisors. Supervisors will inform employees when the functions are essential.

Essential duties and responsibilities: include but are not limited to:

  • Certified Pool Operators tasks – must hold an up to date CPO license
  • Preventative maintenance on the fleet of utility vehicles used by members of the athletic training staff and other members of the athletic department. This includes daily cleaning, battery charging and maintenance in order to keep the vehicles in good working order. During inclement weather, the vehicles should be stored in a location to protect them from the weather.
  • Daily walk-throughs of the athletic buildings looking for maintenance issues and doing repairs on said maintenance issues if applicable. If the task requires work from other members of OPP, these issues should be reported to the Help Desk.
  • Replacing burnt out bulbs
  • Snow removal
  • Reporting work orders to OPP
  • Change records boards
  • Recycling/ Box lunch break down
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with building staff and athletic department. Be contact person for outside vendors and outside contractors.
  • Assist athletic office with their facility needs. Check in multiple times a day to make sure that maintenance and game set ups are taken care of.
  • The set-up, and break down of the courts/venues for practices and/or games and other special student and faculty functions. Maintain all electronic equipment: scoreboards, message boards, record boards, clocks and sound equipment.
  • Maintain lockers in boys’ locker room, assign lockers to students, faculty and assign locker rooms to visiting teams.
  • Standardized testing - Chair set up and break down of testing chairs.
  • Snow removal using shovels, snow blowers etc.
  • Clean up of box lunch delivery area inc. return of reusable containers to Paresky Commons and disposal of trash and recycling.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and occasional overtime. Will need to be flexible for department needs.

Misc. Requirements

  • Individual must be able to work with tools and operate equipment as necessary to accomplish the essential functions of this job.
  • Individual must be able to lift large, heavy items on a routine basis. (50+pounds)
  • A current driver’s license is required.

  • The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts.
  • The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places.
  • The employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to wet, cold and/or humid weather.
  • The employee has to ascend and descend stairs on a regular basis.
  • The employee has to lift, bend, stoop, and reach on a regular basis.
  • Employee is on his/her feet for approximately 6 ½ hours per day (standing/walking).
