Research and Assessment Intern (Graduate Level)

About This Role:

Job Overview

The Research and Assessment intern will participate in evaluation and applied research activities as part of the research and assessment team at ATD. This internship will provide opportunities to gain experience working in an applied setting within a non-profit organization, including evaluation and research activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contribute to a major survey build in Qualtrics along with supporting related report and dashboard development in Tableau or similar platform.
  • Contribute as part of a team doing qualitative analysis of documents related to college-wide student success work.
  • Employ both qualitative and quantitative research methods in a non-profit applied setting.
  • Work collaboratively with a cross-disciplinary research team.
  • Write reports for a lay audience to convey research results.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Demonstrate understanding of research and assessment functions in an applied, non-profit setting and be able to make basic judgements/decisions about research methodology in this setting.
  • Gain hands on experience in conducting qualitative data analysis with the use of qualitative data analysis software.
  • Gain hands on experience building surveys in Qualtrics or similar platform.
  • Build skills in developing automated reports and dashboards using Tableau or similar platform.
  • Grow writing skills by contributing to both qualitative and quantitative analysis reporting.
  • Develop professional skills in communication and collaboration with a specific emphasis on doing so in a remote setting.

Skills/Qualifications/Experience

  • Current graduate student (Masters or Doctorate level) in social sciences (education, human development, sociology, psychology, public policy, or similar field).
  • Completed coursework must include graduate research methods courses including both quantitative and qualitative methods and analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting literature reviews and writing research reports.
  • This is a virtual position. In addition to the research skills needed to participate in the work, a strong candidate will be self-directed. The research and assessment team works collaboratively, and good communication skills are an asset to participating fully in the team. This is a learning internship, and strong candidates will have an interest in the fields of education and higher education, particularly in the context of community colleges, along with a desire to explore research in a non-profit setting.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, including spreadsheets and word processing.
  • Experience using qualitative software such as dedoose or NVIVO.
  • Experience doing multi-methods projects a bonus.
