Job DescriptionJob Description

The Design Engineer will be responsible for the technical oversight of a project from presales through installation and completion. You will design complex av systems, act as the sales/field engineer to help create system proposals, facilitate the start of new projects, assemble project documentation, and provide technical oversight throughout the life of the project. There is considerable client contact, as well as interdepartmental reporting required, which makes communication skills imperative for this position.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Designing audiovisual systems for commercial and professional use

• Assisting sales staff in the preparation of proposals and bid responses

• Ability to translate customer requirements into functional system designs.

• Review pre-construction design and documentation

• Coordinating with IT and facilities personnel as well as construction trades to ensure proper systems deployment

• Generate functional system descriptions and block diagram

• Project documentation including AutoCAD drawings.

• Work with local customers to resolve issues

• Provide on-going engineering support and assist with project sign-off

• Meet with vendors/prospective vendors to help evaluate product as requested

• Conduct internal and external kick-off meetings

• Review project Scope of Work (SOW) to ensure quality and completeness

• Develop engineering and architectural drawings, calculations, acoustical modeling as needed

• Address technical or logistical impediments to delivering scope of work

• Review project designs created by internal and external resources and submit to CAD department

• Review field and shop red-line drawings, revise shop drawings to “as-built’ status for submission to CAD department

• Communicate and engage with internal employees, clients and colleagues in a professional and timely manner

Requirements

• At least five years of experience in av technology preferred

• Must be able to read engineering schematics and communicate design intent

• Maintain positive and effective communication skills

• Knowledgeable of CAD Software and one-line drawings

• CTS certifications are a plus
